One of my friends has a painted grill, and it does happen. All he does is just repaint it.

I had my grill painted, and it chipped badly after a few months of highway driving.
I got it repainted once, then wrapped it in gloss black vinyl. I've had the vinyl on for almost a year, and it hasn't wrinkled, chipped, torn or faded at all.
It was a much better solution.

thanks for the comments so far guys. since I would be doing black if I did paint it, I guess vinyl would be the best option.

what are the chances that the vinyl will fade over time? and how about putting it through a car wash?

I sanded, primed, painted, and cleared mine to hell and back...still chips.

I'll be putting vinyl on the grille and hood in a week or two.

Painted mine black and it has some small chips, also put some wire mesh in and painted that. No chips on the mesh. I think I may re-paint the grill and hood lip gunmetal.

If I had to wager a guess, you're probably going to be infintley better off then the lot of us. You used a 2-stage paint which is significantly harder then the rattle can shit we used.

hey bro question about sending, i was just doing it today, striped the old paing off but when i started sending( keep in mind i was using a plaster send paper) that fkn silver cout would not budge....do i need to get an even stronger sand paper or is it juts the finish of the part?

Hope this makes sense let me know

Also to all who bought vinyl, whats the best place to buy ?

another alternative is to use Plasti-Dip. you should look into it. many people have used it to turn their grills flat black. resistant to rock chips and fully reversible.

I sell vinyl. Black, white, blue, green, and I even just bought some that is anthracite and it should be here tomorrow and I will post pictures.

I did the wife's grill in her TSX in matte black yesterday but had a hard time putting it on because the chrome kept flaking off and sticking to the vinyl. I have enough left over to do my TL's grill but will not be doing it because I dont want the vinyl to pull the chrome off mine either.

anthracite vinyl?? Does it match the OEM AM? My mesh grille has been mounted unpainted all summer and I'm itching to paint it. I know it will chip like crazy so I didn't do it because I was looking for a solution. If this is pretty close to a paint match, let me know!
