Miles Per Tank
EDIT BY MOD RON A ON 30 JULY 2006:
Since this topic is revived on a regular basis, I have made this one thread which is the result of six merged threads, and will direct people to this thread in the future when the subject pops up again. Since several threads have been merged, you will see the question repeat itself sometimes, which means that is the start of another thread that was merged.
As new threads are posted they will be merged here.

I'm getting my new 6spd Navi TL in 2 weeks. One thing I never thought to ask is how many miles per tank do you get on this bad boy? I'm talking from Full to when the Fuel light comes on.
I drive my 2.3CL pretty hard and I usually get 350 in the winter, 290 in the summer with the AC. Its a 5spd.

well, to FUEL light... that (for me) is about 250 miles, averaging 19 - 21 mpg. However, You can drive past the light a fair amount. As discussed in other threads (check TL Garage), theres quite a reserve. "MIles to Empty = 0" is just saying "time to find a gas station", not "you're screwed"

Well my mileage has been significantly worse. I am half way through my third tank and only have 500 miles on the car! So far she has been a severe gas whore (it averages 16 mpg).. I will admit that every so often I am pushing on the fun pedal to open her up, but I am NOT ragging her out by any means.
Even still I cannot express how much I love this car. You will thoroughly enjoy the 6 speed

Based on this, 04TL might have 3.71 gallon left when the light is ON. 13.29 gallons could allow you run 350 in the winter (if your MPG is better than 26.34), and run 290 (MPG > 21.82).
How many gallons can your 2.3CL contain between FULL and FUEL LIGHT ON?
Ppl in Chicago or your neighborhoods should answer this Q better. IMO.

With AC on I get 325-330 mies per tank. This is with 60/40 highway/city driving.

I took my one day old TL past 250 miles today. I am trying to get some miles on it to get it through the break-in period. So far, I'm seeing around 24 MPG with a 6MT.

I just finished doing an approx 360 mile drive. Ended up with a quarter of a tank left. I averaged approx. 42 miles per US gallon. Outstanding. Couldn't believe it myself. With the 6 MT, cruising at about 65 mph kept the tach just hovering above 2,0000 rpm. Great great fuel efficiency.
Tromp it around town though and its a totally different story.

Oh, that is good, but I got one better. I got 561 miles out of one tank. Going from Santa Barbara, CA to Palm Springs, CA. I put it on cruise control at 72mph the whole way and I used the cruise controls to speed up to pass and slow down unless I had to use the brakes or gas. That was sweet. When I add the cold air intake, I imagine I will do better.

510 miles THAT tank
Way back to the beginning of July, on the way from NJ to Ohio, not 17 gallons... but almost 16 gallons... I drove 510 miles with speed mixed btwn 55-85 MPH, plus one pull over.
Low fuel indicator was ON around 450 miles, and Miles to Empty was 0 for miles.

I got 14 MPG in my last tank due to lots of traffic in Manhattan. But I know my baby could give me 26+ MPG on highway cruising.

Have not yet gotten less than 26mpg, with less than 2000 miles total.
And you guys with the crappy mileage, "Do the term "lead foot" have any meaning to ya?
If this post is still around when I get back from Florida, I'll let you know how I did on the "long road" trip. I bet it's going to be somewhat above 32 mpg, but only time will tell.

Hi,
I had 487 miles on one tank (trip from NY to Canada). Average speed 85 mph
I have 300-320 miles when I stay in NY, but do not forget NY has very hard traffic all around.
PS: I drive 5AT

bliss,
It all depends on how/where you drive.
If you run your 04TL in crowded city roads day and night with the big foot, it could be normal or you may get less miles in return. I got the similar mileage per tank in New York, but ever got 510 miles per tank on the highway.

two words.....NOT MANY!!
The problem with Honda motors in general is that in order to extract any significant power from the vehicle you need to be in the VTEC range. Since this range is on the upper band of the RPM range, it sucks fuel like there is no tomorrow. Depending upon who you talk to, this can be a mixed blessing. On the one hand it allows you to wind the car to levels that non Honda owners cringe at (9000 rpm on the S2000), on the other there is ZERO torque! I sincerely hope Honda starts developing engines with more low end torque (ala Nissan) but I doubt we will see a change any time soon. Even the NSX is vastly underpowered until it dips into VTEC. The F1 engines supplied by Honda scream to 13000+ rpms, but this is hardly ideal for a real world road car!!
I am getting on average 17 mpg on combined city/highway driving. Granted my right foot tends to be a bit heavy, but plain and simple this car beer bongs gasoline!
I think my MAX cruising range has been 240 miles.
