Ebony Too Hot for Texas?
Ebony Too Hot for Texas?
Hey folks I am getting ready to get my first TL, 6MT of course.. I definitiely like the Anthractie exterior, but can't decide on the interior. Ebony looks sharp, but I am thinking it will be too hot in Houston this summer, so I am leaning toward Quartz. Any suggestions? Does tinting help cut down on south Texas heat????
I have a tan interior, and my window tint did help keep the heat down inside the cabin, but the seats where still slightly warm, but its not all that bad (except for when my gf gets in with a short skirt on and burns her ass haha)
i have a NBP exterior and black interior. Window tint is limo tint on back windows and back window. And 15% on front two windows. Car is hott, but im use to it. Its really bad though if the sun is pointing into ur car from front windsheild and you do not have a winsheild sunshade. Like today it was fucking hott as shit. It took 25 min to ccol my car off. With AC set at 60 degrees and fan at Max. But all that aside, the car looks clean b/c its solid black. Exterior, interior, all window tint, and tail lights. So, it depends on u, but there is my experience.

It will probably be damn hot...remote start is a good option if you want to cool the int down before getting in. I have nbp/quartz with dark ass tint (not on the front windows
) and its hot as hell when I get in - though i can tell there is a difference in the rear of the car seat temp wise

But I think a lot of this has to do with the reflective quality of the SSM keeping some of the heat off the car in general.

i have the ebony interior in NY and havent gotten my windows tinted yet, and the other day was about 75 with alot of sun .. holy s@#t ... when i got into the car around mid day .. the leather was hot ... quartz will be your best bet in texas.
I have an 01 TL silver outside and black interior 20% mirror tint all around and from Houston as well. Honestly its Houston so whichever you get its still going to be really hot in the summer. I believe ebony looks better. I do have to agree about the front window shade, i highly recommend it. my car always sits outside at work and when I walk in I just want to die.
Oh and btw if none of yall live in Houston yall dont know how hot it can get. Dallas/Austin/San Antonio never feel the heat like we do. It gets about 105-110 in the summer and you had the humidity it feels like 10 degrees higher than what it really is.

on the comments and the color combo, good taste!I use a front sunshade and keep the sunroof closed. This combination does lower the temp a little on hot days.

I live in SoCal and we see almost the same temps as your area sometimes. I bought a Anthracite/Ebony last month and so far it's been pretty decent. Trick is to point the tail in the direction of where the sun will be when you return to the car (as one person mentioned that there is no tint on the front). I also leave my sunroof open and close the shade about 90% (letting a little air escape).
As mentioned above, I think the color of the exterior will matter more. My last car was black, and besides the cleaning nightmare, it got hot. So I went with Anthracite instead of NBP. SSM/Silver is too common in SoCal and many other areas now.

My wife has WDP with Ebony. It has not been too hot in central TX yet. But, the last 2 cars I have had have been sivler/black leather, (01' VW Passat and 03' Accord 2DR 6SP) both with the 35% tint.
I parked out side all day and yes it is hot. But it is not that hot. Role down the windows with the remote and drive. Yes it will be hot but not for very long. My Nismo Frontier gets just as hot and it does not have leather.

Not a bad choice but I would have gone with the Ebony. I have and 02 SSM with Ebony and I like the interior a lot better than the quartz. Just my .02. I lived in Corpus Christi for almost 4 yrs and as long as you have the sunroof vented with the roof part closed almost all the way, a decent tint and the heat shield (highly recommended) sun visor in the windshield, you'll be fine.

not a very good question but yeah, some retard would try to drive with the shade up and then want to sue because he/she couldn't see...
on the heat issue... Houston sucks but I don't think getting the quartz over the ebony will make much of a difference in a NBP car... I park under a tree and hope I'm not targeted by some gangster birds but when I jump in the car around lunchtime, it's worth it... I wash it at least once a week so...

I have an 03 anthracite/black CLS in Austin. Hot is hot, esp here, it's not too much worse than the light color tan interior Legend Coupe I had. The CL's AC is much better than the older ACs anyway. Plus I have good tint and a Heatshield brand sunscreen. I leave the roof popped on hot days and find shade.
I do think black exterior cars add quite a bit to the heat factor though.
I'd get the color you like.
