Check engine light flash on hard accel.

I know at least one other person here had this same problem. Check engine light flashes for about 10-15 seconds after hard acceleration. I bring it up again because there evidently is a TSB on this issue and the dealer needs to do an ECM flash to the computer on the TL. Thus, whoever had/has this problem may want to condsider taking it in. I doubt there is any risk of damage, but it is quite distracting to have yellow lights flashing at you when you are accelerating quickly.

there is risk.

get it in the shop.. pronto. It's not physical breakage damage, but if it's the same bug, then it's Misfiring. The misfire is due to a bad Crank Angle Sensor that fails at W.O.T.

What it does is passes unburnt fuel into the 3 catalytic converters, they can burn most of it, but it's not good for them to receive large amounts.

The fix is to replace the crank angle sensor.

Now, there could be another, and it'd be interesting to see what they're flashing. But on mine (ser# 259) and another guy's Eurolithe, it was the C.A.S.

build #5555.

Dealer contends its not the CAS. We'll see if it is fixed tomorrow. They of course had to keep it overnight because their computer to flash the ECM was broken and they overcommitted their service for today and could not get my other fixes done. Thus, I have a TSX loaner. Pretty nice little car.

Crock of BS

what a load.. their computer is broken.. gimme a break.. Call Acura concerns in a week or two after you get the car back and they will have the real work order on what was ordered and fixed. They get a copy of all of it.

Bigdoomer and Sherlock,

I guess I get to join the club with you and Eurolithe, my check engine light started flashing today, they went out.

I was getting on the parkway and holding it in 2nd gear with SS, unfortunatly there was trafic so I did not upshift, and was in the 4K - 5K range for about a minute, then the picture of the engine (check engine) light came on flashing, then went out a few moments later when I switched back to auto mode.

It was scheduled to go in on Monday anyway.

I will let them know about the CAS and Flash.

Wish me luck.

Sherlock, at least they give out TSX's as loaners, I know you had to beg for one, I guess ATL is not as friendly on that.

Sounds like the same problem. I get mine back today. I will let you know which way they fixed it and I will try to recreate the situation this weekend to see if I can get it to come on again.

Happened to me

Same thing happened to me about 300 miles ago - I've tried to recreate the problem and hasn't happened again. Will keep an eye on it.

It's happened to me and I called the dealer but the service department has never heard of it. Where can I find the TSB write-up on it so I can present it to the service department? I looked at http://www.alldata.com/recalls/index.html but there's nothing on it.

Honda TSBs are real hard to find since they do not release them like some other manufacturers. My dealer just guessed that the ECM upgrade might fix it. I do not think that he found a TSB.

I have found telling the service team I know about a problem makes them less willing to fix without "recreating" the problem.

I haven't had this problem. I use SS for engine braking in heavy traffic and have gone to 2nd accidentally a couple of times at 3.5-4k. Haven't noticed this issue. I tried WOT in the "D" setting a few times since I'm no longer in the engine break-in period and have not had any issues. Will keep you posted.

I have 750 miles on my 5AT Build 8780 and have taken her close to redline a half-dozen times now that I am passed break-in (I use SS relatively frequently, just fyi). No CE lights yet, but I am keeping my eye on it as well.

That never did it for me either, it was when it was kept above 4-5.5k rpms for 30-60 seconds when it happend, WOT is only there for a short time.

Bigdomer, thanks for trying and keeping me updated!

I kept mine in second for about 30 seconds at 5000K, no light.

What's WOT?

When my light came on, I was not at WOT, it was steady, and RPMS between 4k and 5.5k, FYI

2k4TLkev, it was in Monday and Tuesday, code was cyl 5 misfire. Tech line said to dealer to ONLY replace coil pack on cyl 5. I got it back yesterday, but did not have a chance to check it, other than to do a few WOT starts on to the highway, no light yet, but I did not have a chance to test it under the condition it went on in the first place. (I did not want to see the light on all weekend ) I will test it Sunday.

BTW - the first time it flashed and went off around 5k range, second time I did it, it STAYED on.

Some say it is the crank angle sensor, some say it is a reprogram of the PCM. Not sure they know yet, maybe the reprogram resets the trip point to a lesser range based on the CAS used in production???

Good luck!

talked to service department and they said they heard about this problem. People were at first thinking it was hardware (such as Crankshaft position sensor), but Honda contacted them and said it was a software misfire code, and will reprogram new codes into my car.... the guy said it wasnt happening to all cars, so they arent fixing all of them, but just ones that are brought in.

I started noticing it yesterday when doing hard acceleration between 1st & 2nd gears using the sport shift. It flashes then it goes away.

Turbowhat2...

was the reprogramming free of charge?
