3M Tape to Re-badge?

hey guys,

well i debadged my car...and i want to rebadge a few different things in some different spots....can someone point me in the right direction as to which kind of 3M tape to use and what company would be the best...i know that all 3M tape does basically the same thing, but i don't want it to leave marks on the paint or anything like that, and ive read a few threads that said there were 2 types of 3M Tape...one of them made specifically for cars...also where would i be able to get 3M tape? thanks!

Check out the PDF's on the 3m site: HERE

I know that doesn't tell you where to buy it, but it should help you find the correct product.

Other websites mention a 3M product called Badgemount.. Good Luck!

I would just buy new badges or a badge kit....that way you get the die cut 3M tape exactly the way it should look and the correct tape to boot. I know that isnt as cheap as rebadging the old badges...but I never figured on using those old badges again other than a toolbox stickon or something....as they usually distort a bit during removal (look at the very small connecting peices between the letters...they will most likely have stress cracks in the chome somewhere, unless you are real lucky. It is just ususally easier and quicker to buy new stick-on emblems than to reapply a removed one. That is why I NEVER buy used emblems. They usually look weird or not exactly right when you reuse em. Go new...you will be glad you did.

NFL,

Just buy the 3M tape from a reputable automotive paint supply shop (or ask to purchase an adequate strip/length from your local body-shop). I have never seen any sold at this type of establishment that were not specifically for emblem/molding install applications. Just expect to pay more than you would in a hardware store.

Also, as you probably already know - surface prep/cleaning is the linchpin to any adhesion applications on car body/paint.

Cheers

Are you doing something outside of the stock look? If so, what are you doing?.... or is it a secret?

The key here is to use something designed for "adhesion" prep - IE leaving no residue on the paint. The best product is something called "PreCleano". Their are other brands of like quality. They are specific "wax and silicone" removers for adhesion/pre-paint purposes. They also work great for grease/oil/tar removal- and it wont harm the paint. Many other uses around the garage too...

Just ask the folks at your body-shop / Automotive paint supply when you pick up the 3M tape. They will know what you speak of.

Cheers

I use the 3M all the time .. its cheap by the roll .. go to a parts store that deals in auto stuff .. prep the surface with rubbing alcohol but preferably Isopropyl Alcohol (99%) .
