2016 Rdx Problem

Recently replaced my 2013 Rdx with 2016. New problem > looking at each sideview mirror gets bright sun reflection 3x5" from the silver trim of adjustable front air vents.

Most distracting to the driver ! Also visible and distracting to front passenger.

Blk duct tape would look swell... maybe not.

Time for Acura to change to flat black color of these vents

I thought the same thing as I was driving home from the dealership. Funny thing is I stopped noticing it after the first 2 days. I had forgotten how annoying it was until I read your post.

I guess it's something like wearing glasses. After a few days, you are no longer aware of seeing the frames in your peripheral vision.

I have been bitching about Honda's incessant need to put chrome crap on the dash for over ten years. The silver trim on the vents is dangerous as you say -- it interferes with a clear view of the rear view mirrors.

They really, really, really must think it sells cars to put that crap in the cabin.

Doesn't look like they're going to change their view. It has been this way for a loooooooonnnnnnnggggggg time.

This particular problem, however, is bad enough that it has me thinking about painting the bezels -- with a brush if necessary.

Took me several days to get use to it. Glad to see others noticed it. I can live with it though

Count your blessings and don't borrow trouble. If the latitude you live at causes this problem, you'll have no doubt about it. It is really glaring (in both senses of the word).

I thought I had a problem with the driver side mirror showing distorted images at the beginning but then soon realized it was the convex mirror at the end to give a wider angle view.

This would be a perfect time to do some CF wrapping on the chrome parts. I've already wrapped the chrome part around the shifter as it also reflects sunlight. The air vents are next on my list to wrap.

Guess this is one of those times where the 2015 RDX design (flat black vent surrounds) is an improvement over the newer one. :-) I do know that if the sun hits right I get a wicked reflection off of the chrome surround on the shifter base. So I can certainly imagine the issues when they're more in contact with the sun...

Is it easy to take off? If it is, paint them. They have paint for plastic in auto stores, no need to prep.

I'm scratching my head as to what this problem is. I don't notice any reflection off the mirrors from the vents.

Just because it doesn't bother you doesn't mean it doesn't bother somebody else.

It's not even that it doesn't bother me. I don't notice what they're describing at all. I see zero reflection from the vents when I look in the side or rear mirrors. I have the Canadian 2016 RDX Elite though, wonder if that makes a difference.

The problem is likely more obvious with the black interiors. The silver trim stands out more in contrast to the black.

As I said previously, with my black interior, I found it annoying to see the trim in my peripheral vision for the first few days, but I guess my brain learned to ignore it.

The same reflection would have been there for owners with gray or parchment interiors, but it may have been less noticeable without the sharp contrast.

I noticed the reflections in my TLX the first few weeks, then basically got used to it/ignored it. Picked up the RDX last week and I don't even notice the reflections.

I looked very carefully as I was driving today in sunny weather. There are no reflections. Wonder why the others are seeing it?

You need to be tall enough to see into the side view mirror

It did bother me for a few days, but like others have said, I got used to it. I have a white Elite with black interior, in Canada, and was able to see it. Am I a wizard? Who knows.

I think the key is the glare from the sun when it hits them just right. Something shiny on the dash will reflect glare if the angle is correct. Similar to the effect of light colored dashboards (although not as reflective). My '13 MDX had a beige dash pad and it reflected like crazy on a sunny day. Acura finally went to all-black dash pads on their cars, regardless of interior color...

Perhaps a clarification so Rocky can see it himself. The reflection is actually off the window, but in the same area as the rearview mirrors. So you look through the reflection when looking at the mirror.

Ok thanks. I will look for it next time. My interior is black so maybe that's why I haven't noticed it.

Add two more phone books to the seat and you might sit up high enough to actually see out the window.

Issue with the Technology

I have experienced the issues with the brakes and dropped my 2016 RDX off this morning for service.

I also told them about an 2 issues I have seen a few times with the entertainment/navigation.

1. After switching from Sirius to regular radio, my preset channels are missing it it recognizes the last channel I was on. I correct by switching back to Sirius radio or restarting the car.

2. I will be driving by the navigation still shows me home in my driveway. I have to pullover and restart the car to correct this.

These issues happen off and on but I was able to get pictures of the radio stations being jumbled. The service tech said its a first he's heard of this and had me send him the pictures I took. Has anyone else experienced this?

Notice my #4 channel should be 97.9 but the preset is missing even though it is recognized as #4 for what is currently playing(they don't match)

It did the same this as above but made all my channels 87.7.

The infotainment system, wish I could help but haven't experienced this issue. What brake problem were you having? Let me know how they fix it. Thanks!

I have black interior also. Strangely, I have not gotten that reflection in the mirror! That would be pretty annoying.

It might depend on the driver's height and therefore the viewing angle

My wife's has this same issue and it became noticeable after tinting the windows. We have learned to ignore it and use to it now. Good to see Acura is willing to fix the issue but don't think I'll be downgrading to a base trim bezel.

If anyone has there's replaced. Please post a before and after of the trim and reflection. Thanks!

Not so sure that publishing the PNs available for purchase is the same as being willing to fix the issue.

Remember that the Service News articles are directed at dealers and are one step under a TSB. What the article is in actually telling dealers to do is to swap out the bezels "to improve customer satisfaction" - not to try to sell the bezels to customers.

I expect a TSB out on this shortly to tell dealers how to charge for the swap.
