Fucking fuck fuck mcfuckinstans.. the power steering hose is such a bitch. On my gen the connection to the pump goes straight instead of around the pump. So I can't access it from the bottom (blocked by subframe and crossbar +axle and exhaust). So I'm like fuck it.. after fucking around for about an hour.. realize best way in is from up top. Such a bitch to get flange nut wrench on it.. plus the fitting is known be seized like a bitch. Whole fucking arm down the engine, looks like I fought a fucking alley cat. No bitchness here, finally get nut off (moneyshot) after another hour..
But then realize.. shiet.. even if I remove the nut from the pump, how am I going to torque new one in. The fucking wrench has about 5 degrees of movement over the nut.. fucking fuck. I threaded it back for the moment and considering my next move. There are also 2 securing bolts along the line that are tight as fuck to access. I can get to them, barely.. but I'm more concerned about being able to get bolts back on if at all (off is easy). I tried from up top on the most difficult one, but even with my longest extensions, it's too tight to access and at an angle (flat against bottom of firewall).
Anyways.. the proper way to do the job is by dropping the subframe (fuck me). I quit after a couple of hours (I figured I'd be in and out in an hour) tightened up the nut as much as I could, pulled the ramps and parked it. Washed up (lfucking coal miner), spent time with fam, had dinner (hopdoddy.. fook yah). I think I'll try again tomorrow. Remove securing nuts first, loosen flange nut off, wiggle that bitch out and install new line (this might be the most challenging). Not sure how I'm going to torque the nut with such little space. I might buy another flange wrench and make my own 90 degree bend at the neck.. we'll see.
Fuck!

I can't say enough good about the lith ion set of impact/driver makita B got me over 5 years ago. Had one battery shit...but that's it...and I think it's because I didn't cycle charge it enough. I have a wand style led flashlight I run off the same batteries too and still going strong as hell...108 ft/lb IIRC...not TOO strong, but strong enough to make quick work.

As far as the batteries are concerned, they have a circuit board in them that constantly draws a very small amount of power from the battery itself. You have to use and recharge the batteries at least once a month, otherwise they completely drain and eventually shit the bed. That circuit board is a safety feature that monitors what's happening with the battery. If it detects the lith ion is fucked, it won't allow you to charge it again. Better that than having the battery explode, lol.

that's exactly what happened...it wasn't a bad battery, it just rang out the warning and refused to charge.

Seriously.. a fucking hose.. 5 bolts, 1 nut.. 6-7 fucking hours later.
Eat shit, suck dick!
Seriously, the lower securing bolt alone is mounted to the lower cross bar. Fucking reach down there.. like crammed up an ass tight.. then go below to pivot.. then fit your fat fucking fingers between body and crossbar to tighten nut. Thread never catches.. cross thread.. start over.. fuck.
If you remove the return line all-together.. leading all the way to the connecting return line.. Probably save 2-3 hrs. I could probably do it again in 2-3 hrs.
Pop flare nut.. 30 mins
Remove securing bolts.. 15 mins
Extract hose.. 1.5 fucking hours
Figure out how to get new hose in.. 30 mins
New hose gets fucking stuck (fuck!).. 30 mins
Fuck how they say to do it.. I'm doing this shit how I think I should.. 15 mins (seriously, fuck those internet hacks and shop manual fuckers)
Secure flare nut.. 1/2 revolution at a time.. (fuck!).. 30 mins
Mount securing nuts back in.. 30 mins
Clean-up, cycle new PSF.. 30 mins
+time to document work, go buy tools, clean up, etc.Remove securing bolts.. 15 mins
Extract hose.. 1.5 fucking hours

I just did a model specific search and some guys are paying +1-2k to have the shop do the job. At least $500 in labor.
All the techs say lower subframe. Some posters mention that they've heard people doing it without lowering subframe, but the only posts I see about doing so are with Honda Pilots / other platforms, where the hose orientation and mount points are way easier to access (pretty much all accessed from the bottom).
Might post a DIY later.
