Yeah, having a bugout vehicle is a good idea here.
Went out to grab a bite after work yesterday at a little joint down on the edge of Trinity Bay. Right after 5:00 and about a third of the parking lot was already under water. Probably up to 6" at the low end. All of the inland marshes have risen up, and there are a couple of bridges I saw this morning that probably had 2-3 feet more water under them already.
Didn't need to, but I made sure to exit the parking lot through the submerged section. Hollering out Fukyeahtruck! as I did so (but in my head only, don't want to upset anyone with a pottymouth).
I'm rather enjoying this storm right now. It seems like most people are cowering indoors so the roads are fairly clear. Went for a run this afternoon and it was wonderfully cool and the rain varied between drizzling and dumping. So I got my exercise and my shower all in one go.
Fucking fuck fuck mcfuckinstans.. the power steering hose is such a bitch. On my gen the connection to the pump goes straight instead of around the pump. So I can't access it from the bottom (blocked by subframe and crossbar +axle and exhaust). So I'm like fuck it.. after fucking around for about an hour.. realize best way in is from up top. Such a bitch to get flange nut wrench on it.. plus the fitting is known be seized like a bitch. Whole fucking arm down the engine, looks like I fought a fucking alley cat. No bitchness here, finally get nut off (moneyshot) after another hour..
But then realize.. shiet.. even if I remove the nut from the pump, how am I going to torque new one in. The fucking wrench has about 5 degrees of movement over the nut.. fucking fuck. I threaded it back for the moment and considering my next move. There are also 2 securing bolts along the line that are tight as fuck to access. I can get to them, barely.. but I'm more concerned about being able to get bolts back on if at all (off is easy). I tried from up top on the most difficult one, but even with my longest extensions, it's too tight to access and at an angle (flat against bottom of firewall).
Anyways.. the proper way to do the job is by dropping the subframe (fuck me). I quit after a couple of hours (I figured I'd be in and out in an hour) tightened up the nut as much as I could, pulled the ramps and parked it. Washed up (lfucking coal miner), spent time with fam, had dinner (hopdoddy.. fook yah). I think I'll try again tomorrow. Remove securing nuts first, loosen flange nut off, wiggle that bitch out and install new line (this might be the most challenging). Not sure how I'm going to torque the nut with such little space. I might buy another flange wrench and make my own 90 degree bend at the neck.. we'll see.
Also. the leak appears to be from the second fitting on the hose.. such a poor design. I noticed all the rubber along the hose is cracked too.. so it might be seeping as well. Keep your hoses (hoes) in check gents!
Went out during rainpocalypse because the crowds were pretty thin.
Brief backstory: 1) I haven't listened to the radio in my car in months. 2) Was driving mama's bugout truck because omgwtfbbqflooding. 3) Most of the presets on the radio are her's but I have a couple stashed on there.
Driving through the drizzle, I heard Trap Queen come on the radio. It took me a second for things to click and I realized that it was on one of "her" stations, i.e. Top 40 and not one of "my" stations i.e. what passes for a rap station in the H. So I was like, "huh, how bout that... Feddy Wap is on Top 40?!?!" Which I found interesting because that is very obviously a song about drugs. On Top 40. Which elicited a slight chuckle from me.
But then around the end of the song, I outright laughed... At the thought of the average domestic housewife driving the kids to soccer practice, or going to get a pumpkin spice jizzatino, or whatever housewifes do when they're plowing their Urban Assault Vehicles through town. And they're cruising around, playing the Top 40 station because they like that Taylor Swift and One Direction and , but then this new song comes on... By this Fifty Wraps artist... And I imagine them singing along to Trap Queen, thinking that they're able to relate to "the stove" and "whipping things up" and "cooking pies". But that's not *exactly* what he means.
And that got me thinking of what else they might be singing along and "relating" to... Yams? Oh, yeah, those are healthy; I like cooking yams! Oh, this fella cooks with Pyrex also? So do I! I love making lasagna in my Pyrex flat! Chopping and mixing... I hear ya' urban youth... I'm in the kitchen making healthy meals as well...
And *that* is a beautiful sight to imagine!
