CAR THINGS

So I got to swap my headlight bulbs for the Morimoto XB35 I bought from TRS... yeah, turns out I have Osram Xenarc 66040 in there already. Should have looked before buying.

So since I bought the XB35 like 6 months ago I tried them. Passenger light XB35, driver side 66040 for comparing.
XB35 is slightly yellower than the 66040, output seems very similar. I'm still not satisfied, I'd like even brighter... but going for the 66250CBI likely won't show much of a difference.

Fuck my life

Yeh, you told me before. But 66040 vs 66240 CBI isn't day and night of a difference.

So... anyone pushing 43 or 55W in the TL projectors? Melting everything?

If one requirement is bright white, not yellowish or bluish...it's a huge difference.

The 66040 that I have now (well, 1 of the headlights is using the XB35 since Saturday) are pretty pure white at 4300K. It's the predecessor to the 66240.

One thing to note though, XB35 5500K are comparable in color to 66040 which are rated at 4300K IIRC. Either one isn't on the spot though considering the XB35 are very slightly yellower than the Osram 66040. I can see why you said they gave you a green tint. It's hard to notice but against a CBI it would seem very yellow/green.

Not a big deal because it's only $50. They are definitely good for the price, compare to the 66040/66240 (not CBI) in terms of brightness for a fraction of the price). Budget bulbs with top dog results. I wouldn't be displeased if I bought those to replace dying bulbs, I'm only slightly displeased because I didn't end up upgrading.

Sooooo I might end up going for the CBI or maybe the XNB. I like the temperature of the CBI more though.

You should just entirely remove your head lights and replace them with LED light bars

Gotta fit that in the budget. For now, more maintenance.

Thanks for the reassurance though. The 66040 aren't shitty, but I think it could be even brighter.

Aren't you guys worried about being ass holes out on the road with super super bright lights? Granted they're still legal, but I bet it sucks for anyone in front of you... especially with dem beamz so focuzed!

It's not so bad in the TL with the auto dimming mirror and tinted rear glass, but on any other car I've owned there were times where it would be annoying as hell sitting in front of an infinity or Lexus or whatever. Those lights are crazy focused through the projector and the beam cut off only does so much.

I'd imagine the majority of those cars are unmodified also.

Why would I be an asshole? As long as you aim them properly there's no issue. We're not running HID in halogen projectors.

If anything I'm more concerned about LED DRL. Those usually have no proper cutoff like the HID and are much more powerful than the stock halogens. That's a reason why I haven't swapped the bulbs yet. Can't find a white LED like with a proper & safe cutoff.

I've seen my car from my mom Aveo and I wasn't blinded either. It's all about having them properly aligned, many people run mis-aligned headlights on the road. We all had a pickup truck blind you in the side mirrors at one time because their headlights are too horizontal...

There have been times i would have preferred hids in a halogen head light because at least the light isn't focused lol. Now that i think of it, it might have been more suvs blinding the shit outta me as opposed to cars which have their lights lower.

it wasn't all vehicles either. Certain luxury brand vehicles only. Either way. Moot point is moot.

That's because the pick up has a ton of shit in the box, causing the front end of the truck to lift and the ass to sag. Fuckin rednecks

I'm thinking it's just shitty owners with no alignment. That and crappy eBay bulbs with crazy scattering. :/

Quoted for truthiness

TL projector is one of the best performance OEM bi-xenon projectors to date. Shouldn't be a problem at all.. CBI's, XNB's, 55W ballasts.. it's all good (not so much the 55w ballasts.. just stick with OEM on those..

I'm surprised you don't like the XB35's pb they're cheap and good bang for the buck for $50... CBI/XNB will definitely blow those out of the water though but it's also 3x the price :P

Nah nah don't get me wrong, they're really good.
I have an OSRAM 66040 in the driver side and the XB35 in the passenger and they look very similar. The OSRAM is so very lightly bluer/whiter. Take into consideration the XB35 hasn't been in it for a while now so it can still colorshift a bit.
Similar to the butt dyno, my "bunny eye" says in terms of light output they are crazy similar if not identical. If I had bought the XB35 coming from very old stock bulbs or low quality bulbs I would be very pleased. The XB35 is not an upgrade to the OSRAM 66040 but a replacement (at a fraction of the price). I would gladly recommend them and I think they beat anything in that price range for sure. I'm simply on the quest for an even brighter bulb because I wasn't aware I had OSRAM 66040 in my TL from the previous owner and I didn't take the time to check.

My only concern about the XB35 5500K is that I don't think they're 5500K, or the OSRAM 66040 4300K I have in now aren't 4300K. I don't have good photography equipment to capture it but once you see both side by side there's no way there's such a big difference in the apparent temperature and the actual temperature. Once again, possible the XB35 will colorshift to their final temperature over time if I decide to run them. Sorta sucks if they don't though as some people might be buying them and getting deceived.

On a related note, I went through the wheel well and boy is it a stupid thing to be doing. You have to be a chinese 12 years old boy to cram your hands in there that way and the only reason I did it was because one of my bumper bolts is completely rusted and I didn't want to fuck with it.

Yes. Size does matter when laying the pipe.

Or at least that's what I've been told.

Usually to make me cry.

I think it's a little bit of both. The 66040 have been in there a while and have likely colorshifted to the whiter/bluish tint you've become accustomed to. XB35 definitely will color-shift and settle to a whiter light Give it some time, I think you won't be disappointed for the price you paid.

That's for off-road only! I almost never do off-road with the TL.

That is still low in the priority list. Can't be spending near $200 on HID bulbs when I got 2 sets working perfectly fine and maintenance items needing to be done. Fucking bushings and CV joint.
