On the topic of recievers, my Sony STR-DE335 (I think) from '99 is STILL as strong as it was back when I got it.

Flip are you planning on just running those two Polks or are you looking to build a full surround sound setup?

Wait, are you me?

A few years back I did a bunch of research and ended up with an Onkyo. Great receiver. Yamaha is good too. Definitely in my top two.

Re: Guessing what day it is... I was going to drag that picture up today as well but I see you've got it covered. Odd. What's my favorite color?

Wow are you missing a whack load of features these days, lol.

I spent about a $1000 on a Pioneer (not Elite) receiver about 3 years ago... I'm still learning how to use the damn thing It can do so much crap, it blows my mind. The ones that have come out since have even more features crammed into them. Funny thing is, the only noticeable difference between the Pioneer and Pioneer Elite receivers is:

1. Price.
2. 1 year warranty vs 2 year warranty.

I bought my receiver from the US, shipped through a family friend in Texas, so I don't get any warranty anyway since I'm outside of the US. Figured I'd save a bit of cash and go with the non-Elite version.

Stay away from Harmon Kardon receivers. They look pretty, but for what you pay, they're very limited compared to other brands at the same price point.

No shit man, those receivers are getting way complicated. All that with 1 million physical buttons on a 2 color LCD.

I loved my Onkyo...but in the move, something happened to it and I had to use my father in law's sony instead. So far so good, we watch all living room TV with it.

$100.. are you sure it's not fucked? That's not bad. For around $300, Yamaha usually has sales on their current line of receivers, usually stereo subs and multi-zone/room configs. Most modern receivers do the job pretty well. There are lots of audiophiles that squabble over SQ/SNR/ Even a lowly $200 Sony receiver has a lot of bang for the buck, infuriating setup on some of them though.

Right now the 477 is $250 and the 577 is $380 (this will drop sub 300 at some point soon), both excellent receivers.

I'll respond in the home theater thread, but what's your setup you're going for? Room size, TV setup, what speakers are you looking at / have? etc.

Sony receivers don't get much love, but it's hard to knock them. Sure some comparos will find the small differences that set them apart, but your ears will have a hard time discerning those differences.. your wallet will not.

It must be from the bats that settled in his RLX...

I like how the RLX guys are saying Acura isn't advertising the RLX more because they don't have the capacity to build more

Um, if the demand is there, they'd make the capacity. RLXs rotting on dealer lots is not a sign of short supply

There's so many little details that goes into the making of the RLX, from the rattle in the suspension, passing by the headlight reflective material flaking to the seatbelts getting stuck, Acura cannot make them quickly enough. There's already a waiting list at my local Acura dealership for people who want RLX. It goes up to March of 2016!

I don't use it for Home Theater purposes anymore so the lack of features doesn't bother me. I have a Pioneer DDJ-SX hooked into it so the only time I really use it is when I'm too lazy to string up my real DJ equipment.

Maj is right - build piece by piece and ditch the all-in-one home theater in a box stuff. Craigslist is a good place to dump it and possibly even a good place to snag some used gear.

Well.. having the kiddos.. lots to consider. In terms of components, what do you have, looking to add, etc? Fronts, center, rears, sub?

YOU DJ Frantz???

I was looking into the DDJ a while back.. I prefer Serato over Traktor but realized I'm more into controllers so opted to buy launchpads, APCs, etc.. More fun to play/make music so Ableton is my go to now

Ha man that's a world I haven't touched in so long. With enough Google-Fu one might be able to find some of my old tracks that I put out in FL & Rebirth.
Never tried Serato (don't know it even) but I've used Traktor with a deck before.

Flip, let me give you some advice for a subwoofer- I'm sure Maj will like this because it is definitely on a budget.

'); popupWin.document.write (ImageName); popupWin.document.write ('

You will not find a 12" sub for cheaper than this one. They say MSRP is $600, but I BELIEVE they only sell their stuff on ebay. It goes for half of that price, new. This thing HAMMERS. It makes the inside of my neighbor's house shake.

I'm no audiophile, but I refuse to pay $1200+ for just a 10" sub. I've read reviews online by some audiophiles saying the build quality is subpar, etc. but I've been using mine for 3 years without issue. It's survived one house move without issue. It was shipped without issue. It works as it should, and again, it HAMMERS. It weighs 60 pounds and is solid AF. I couldn't be happier with this thing. Looks nice too- I got the solid black one.

They also make a 10", or a 15" if you really want some boom. Best $300 I've ever spent for home audio. I've never tried their speakers, but honestly, with how happy I am with their sub, I'd be willing to give them a try. At the price they go for, you've got little to lose. You could flip it on craigslist after and lose little.

Shipping on this thing was cheap too, surprisingly, given the weight.

Did you post the right link TB? You mean precision acoustics.. anyways, I'd never endorse PA products. As I told Anil, if you're going to use one sub.. get a BIC F12 and don't look back. If you're doing stereo subs, get two F12s.

If you can get Polks for ~$100/ea. Go that route.

The price on the F12 on Amazon has gone as low as 175/180 I believe.

If you can get Polks for ~$100/ea. Go that route.
Whoa! I was gonna recommend BIC America! I haven't actually come across another human being that has heard of them though...

I have a full Acoustech system that I put together in addition to a 6" Venturi stereo tower pair.

BIC America is some pretty good baller on a budget gear. I've been super happy with my setup; moved across the country all good and everything. Hits like a mofo and plays well at low volume too.

Highly recommended.

BIC F12 ftw.

The Polk PSW10 (likely the one Maj is referencing) is the one i got too for less than $~100 shipped is great budget one and kicks pretty well too.

Honestly flippy, the whole polk line that always goes on sale on slickdeals/newegg is pretty decent for buying a la carte. I got some front towers for about $100 each.

if they're in stock... There's been times Crutchfield has matched amazon's price and that's when i buy.
