Pretty theoretical approach, but I do agree. It's like happiness, it can be whatever you want it to be. When I see an animal suffering and you determine that it will not get better...I will take it out. But it's such a dichotomy of emotion for me because I'm ending it, but I know it's better for it...gah. Deep sh*t in here today...
I think we'd get along pretty well in person, Majofo. If I'm ever in the area, I'll stop by and loan you my towel.

I'm of the opinion, having gone through a few "not fun" moments in my life and having seen what the world is like, that there is no God (i.e. Christian).
But, I do respect the faith and the good it preaches for people if they choose to follow it.

I choose to believe that this can't be it and there's something out there...some commonality across all religions whether they worship a duck or cow or guy on a cross. I know people cringe at it...
gun to head, I'd probably pick to be a Buddhist. Be good, be simple, be kind, take as little as possible.
but first, a selfie and 4 TV's and 3 cars and a wife and money
Seriously though, every day I do set out to be a better me, constantly changing and open to suggestions and improvement. Makes me seem wishy washy to some, but I am exceptionally good at arguing both sides of any decision I make. Happiness and making people smile and laugh is really my only quest.

Christ has no body but yours,
No hands, no feet on earth but yours,
Yours are the eyes with which he looks
Compassion on this world,
Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good,
Yours are the hands, with which he blesses all the world.
Yours are the hands, yours are the feet,
Yours are the eyes, you are his body.
Christ has no body now but yours,
No hands, no feet on earth but yours,

compassion on this world.

If you want to get really theoretical.. does this not mean that you and I are christ? Think about it, and ponder what works were so great that he did with his time on earth that we can't do the same.

FWIW, I completely respect what Christ the man was and what he preached. We can blame the zealots and the corruption of others for taking the "religion" and skewing it to the bloodshed and evil we've seen throughout the history books...all in his "name".
Horrible.

What I meant was that we can interpret it any way we want.
If what you're asking me is do I go to church every Sunday? No.
But I believe in Karma, I believe that we have the untapped power to make life on earth better for all that deserve it (hate to be the one to decide, but fuck some of those rapists and animal abusers) and I believe we have been blessed with the ability to choose our perception.
I don't aspire to fit the mold that Mother Theresa creates. I'll just be Jeremy. At least my WWJD bracelet would still be relevant, right?

Talking about karma.. for all the good you do, will you be rewarded in the way you desire. And for all the bad that has happened to you or those around you, did they deserve it. It's a balance and not always the way you think.

I believe in karma. It at least, of all the religious concepts, makes the most sense to me.
When my Dad was suffering like no other and dying from cancer...or I'm watching famine in Africa because of drought, don't tell me that there's a God that "loves" us. How is making a person suffer like that "love"? Horse-turd if you ask me.
At least karma makes sense (for me).

but, I don't claim to have it all figured out though.
I sit back, and TRY and do good...and accept that sometimes shit ain't gonna go my way. But in the grand scheme of things, I'm alright and life cool and I get good shit coming my way. Maybe it's because I interpret it that way, maybe others wouldn't notice the good and just focus on the flat tire, wife sucking off the neighbor and defiant kid. I don't know...
Bottom line, own who you are and your actions. Apologize and never repeat the same action that hurts someone else...
I wouldn't be bold enough to claim that my way of thinking applies to anyone but me...live and let live as the great Roy Orbison once said.

So, doesn't matter.
However, the problem (at least through personal experience) is when you hit challenges/hurdles in life...the big ones...where the concept of good/moral actions don't apply...where faith is required. And for me, some of the explanations to how the world/stars work...I think are just hokey. Again, not meaning to be offensive...just speaking my mind.
Put it this way, if some guy dared to tell me what my Dad was going through was God's will, I would've punched him.

If you believe in karma, then do you believe your father's battle was deserved or that those that die from natural disasters / famine / genocide had it coming as well? We are the only ones left to steer the ship.
God's love is our love. Our ability to love, receive love and give love. To love one another. You're searching for something at the surface, but you need to look deeper. I don't really want to get personal, but take the good with the bad. Reflect on who was there to support you during those times.. and ask if that's what you failed to see.
Did God grant victory over a pugilist and defeat to his opponent. Or is it the love they receive in celebration and consolation in defeat where god resides? Where do we get the strength to live and love and continue on knowing the inevitable.

I've met people like that Yummy.. they'll say that if you don't believe in Jesus you're going to hell as well. Live a good life, be just, open your heart when you're called to do so (sometimes the most difficult thing to do). Be good and treat everyone with compassion. Try not to judge. Not much more to it. We are the only ones that can make a change. Sometimes being a good role model is enough to encourage those around us and so on.

Before my dad passed, we had a few serious conversations about the subject of religion. I consider myself an agnostic and he was a very strong Christian, but not the kind that pushed it to other people. One of the things we uncovered together was the core of Christianity. All of this man-made bullshit (i.e. Churches with different rules, different interpretations of the bible, violence, various ceremonies, etc.) is completely pointless and has nothing to do with what it means to be a Christian. Christianity is defined by just one word: Love. Love everyone, no matter what. You don't have to go to church, confess your sins, read the bible, or pretend you're eating flesh and drinking blood to be a good Christian. Nor do you have to even call yourself one.
In fact, I would say that if you stripped most religions of their man-made nonsense, you would end up with a very similar result. And the result would probably be based on the golden rule in some way or another. Show others the same respect that you would want them to show you. That's how I live. Don't fux with me, I won't fux with you. I help strangers when I can, because I hope that someone would help me if I was in their situation. When I was in California a couple of weeks ago, I picked up someone's iPhone. I managed to find the owner and return it. I don't even like telling people this shit because it seems like I only did it for the recognition. That's contaminated virtue and I hate that.
I definitely don't have it all figured out either, and I agree with J in that I don't think my way of thinking applies to anyone else. </rambling>
