Well, they turned into Koolaid, but for a decent price, they have some pretty nice designs...I think.

They're probably the MOST played out...
I don't recall what they were called but the one's that Italiano had on his car were the wheels I wanted for a LONG time.

Volk, Work and Advan owner here...but I don't knock the other brands. I'm sure some are the best and some are the most expensive, but overall, they all do a pretty good job of being round and rolling with some tires on them.

OEM wheels are made the same way as those pictured above.
low pressure casting.
the reason why they get a lot of hate is because of their marketing team is just that good, a la Steve Jobs.
commanding a high price for something normal/mediocre, where as a better wheel company with a better product sells for just as much
then supply and demand took over, because they do look fantastic.
low pressure casting.

I think the Apple issue is somewhat different...more to do with the elitist behavior of the owners than what Jobs was doing. I mean, sure, he did a remarkable job of marketing the product but it was more the impression that given off on how one's own self-worth is dependent on a stupid tablet or smartphone.

if you ever get the chance to speak to a Vossen owner, you'll realize they've got bitten by the elitist bug, because they paid top dollar for it.

As I said the other day, maybe we're all just too old...not sure. I've seen them at a wheel shop before but never did look up the price.
I do like Vorsteiner stuff.

I will be honest, the 3.7 Mani and throttle body are $$$ and not worth the $$$ to gains ratio....I got them ported and polished too.....but if you want to get every HP that you can, then its a must as the gains are quite decent (again not worth the money but well)....
Justin I think what Jeremy was agreeing with was since you are out there and getting free-er flowing heads might as well cough up another some bucks and get them ported and polished and the maintenance work around it since we don't take the heads off the car everyday

Justin will most definitely see an increase in power on his j32 but the powerband may shift in accordance to his current mods. The height being compromised for width, the intake ports are made for increasing air velocity which is done to increase torque production. The exhaust ports are actually smaller than those of the previous 3.2/3.5 single port design. Many are concerned about the heads potential of being "too much" for a smaller displacement engine but in all actuality, they are engineered perfectly and even compliment Honda's new lineup of the 3.5 (previous 3.7's as well) engines without flaw. If anything, they make things worse for the higher revving large displacement engines due to their port shape/design. But for the smaller displacement engines, you couldn't ask for a more potent heads.
Bottom line: these heads are MADE for producing torque. Not to mention the added cooling properties of the castings themselves.

And certainly seems to know what the fk he's talking about. I don't know which expert to believe
Also why I don't go down that route, too much unknown and theoretical gains vs. hp. Justin's situation is about the only one I'd upgrade too..
Jeff's around, lurking
Obviously, not from an unbiased source, but at least it's a good read. Everything breaks...context is everything and for the amount of people sporting these wheels, we're not hearing about a class action suit or mass deaths as all these sweet hellastanceflush people careen out of control to their deaths as all 4 wheels simultaneously combust due to sudden atmospheric pressure changes.
Austin, stop talking sh*t and use some logic...just because you finally got an "elite" wheel...doesn't mean you have to become an elitist ahole. Let's not forget your beloved F14's quality was put in question too and they are a "quality" wheel. IIRC you once said "ZOMG, this Forged wheel makes my d*ck so forged. Forged FTMFW 4 Lyf, Dawg!"
Gotta respect their marketing campaign...in addition to them constantly changing and coming up with new designs that created it's own niche and a slew of design thefts from lesser known companies...Vossen is an innovator. Like with anything popular...success breeds criticism.
I recently read Rondy's thread on creating a new design and that ish is NOT easy.

keeping with the vossen theme; oem wheels are made with the same process as vossens.
ive seen plenty of oem wheels bent or cracked but no one bats an eye

In all due respect Anil (Mr. Big-Baller-With-The-GTR-Pics), grinding the tumble port heads (j37 and j35zX heads) is really not worth the money UNLESS one is doing the work himself...even then this is a borderline useless mod. I'm not saying that there wouldn't be any airflow increase but the difference would be enough to piss you off.

I was mentioning the 3.7 manifold and throttle body upgrades are not worth it....I have been always saying the heads are more than worth it....infact I was also telling Justin to get the heads ported and polished by YOU while they are off the car....
for my 3.7 manifold and throttle body (brand new from OEMACURA) I paid over a 1000 bucks...I would have gained about 4-6whp TOPS !!!
now the heads are a totally different story...
