Just missed a bit of spring power there. Probably not using premium.

VLAD.. do it brother.. school is such a badass experience.. you're broke but you're super happy even though stressed to the max. Plus.. you might end up making better money on the other side. That's debatable though. I say if you go grad, do PhD. Why not.. get paid, tuition free, science!

I really appreciate the words of encouragement! I've pretty much decided that I'm definitely going for the PhD. It's only a question of where, and the answer depends on what kind of research is going on. I'll start in CO. If I like it, I'll get the PhD there. If not, I'll get the MS and then go elsewhere for the PhD. Going to check out their labs in March.

My pops was working on his second dissertation (material science) when he passed away. His grandpa was one of the top RF engineers for the soviets. This science love is genetic haha.

My only question when anyone considers going the PhD route is the school and if you'll get a research position (i.e. post-Doc). Otherwise, there's a lot of broke PhDs out there that can barely scrape by and have thankless jobs as TAs in labs for dummy freshmen...

But, do what you love.

My pops was a PhD too and got his over in the Windy City. He was our ticket to North America...

Although, my official story is we all got here by boat.

Boat ticket, I imagine. Which is still better than hanging on a plane landing gear, right?

And when we arrived, our vehicle of choice was a scooter. All of us on it.

Grandma, Grandpa, Mom, Dad, Aunt, Uncle. All of us. On one scooter.

Vegas for a week used to be our annual migration, friends and family would fly in.. tickets, suite as cosmo, shows, drink every fancy drink there is (and a few shit ones). Party in XS, Marquee, eat all teh foods.. I'm talking all the legit places. See some tits, shoot some guns, fly in a heli, drive some cars, get a massage, bang some hoes (miz), gamble, drunk gamble lose everything, come home, fuck yeah.. lets go again in a few weeks.. and that's small time regular shit.

Couple trips back I drank like 20 rum and cokes, 4 goose martinis, 5 whiskeys, and one of those obnoxious jugs from Fat Tuesdays with everclear. After 2 hours of gambling and drinking into the wee hours, I tried to withdrawl 10k from my checking.. luckily the ATM was like, you're drunk, go home. Made it back to the room (don't remember), spinning like crazy.. took 2 hr shower, finally sleep, wake up in 3 hrs to checkout.. complain to wife that I don't have enough time to pack and take a shower, she dead stares at me.. YOU TOOK A 2HR SHOWER LAST NIGHT!! (didn't remember until she mentioned it) Pack shit up in the car.. fuck I'm still drunk.. go eat eggs benedict and cool out until I'm less drunk.

My brosef got so trashed on that flight back he was super drunk and sick. He goes to crap on the plane, flight attendant keeps bugging him every 10 minutes.. apparently he was on the shitter for almost an hour. Sir are you okay? I'm fine, leave me alone. They finally break the door down with his pants down at his ankles.. whole plane is looking. WTF are you doing?!?! He sobers up real quick, goes back to seat after closing door and pulling up pants.

A lot of great memories were made for sure. I don't even think of all the money we've dropped over the years. Definitely GT-R money.

Brah.. the boys still thank me to this day for some of the shit we got into. Some say I'm evil, others a facilitator.. I'm just the gateway bro to hedonistic pussy in your face, motorboat heaven. Talk about spending money, no buyers remorse.

Damn sounds like an awesome time. I'm glad I got a taste of that at herr docktors BP EDC weekend in Vegas.

Dropped nearly 10 grand that weekend

Crazy mofos, but totally worth it.

Haha my dad got his at UIC in 1999.

That's a great point Yum. I'm lucky that I have some decent work experience under my belt, and great references in the contract engineering/manufacturing industry (though no references in academia for research work yet) so I think I can always fall back on engineering if things don't work out. Although I really would prefer to work at NASA or SpaceX.

Nah, not everyone dropped that much. I choose to participate in everything. So it racked up a lot.

And I'm not balling. I'm still hurting from that weekend and it was 6 months ago!

Man I really wish I ran a convenience store/sold oranges/picked fruits and veggies in the field/became a taxi driver but since those immigrants came by, I can't anymore! *shake fist*

After hearing your stories...I suck at partying. I've gotten wasted...and I've spent frivolously on things...but never at the same time. I know it's for the sake of a good time and memories but I have limits.

Not sure if you're serious or not...but, there's no such thing as "suck" at partying...do what makes you happy and gets you to laugh your face off with your buddies. All relative.

And there's a time and place for everything. I can look back to my earlier years with some fondness and chuckles but I'll say this, it's not for me anymore...marriage and parenthood may have had alot to do with it.

Still, it's the memories and stuff you can laugh at with your buddies over a beer to reminisce about. That's priceless IMO.

Probably better. I'm similar. Had amazing parties though, like open house at my parents w/ 100+ people in a little cottage. Or renting a shack house in the middle of the woods in January for a 3 days weekend and getting 15 people in there. Propane stove and too much bacon, fireplace, guitars and at least a 24 of beer by person. It was fine until one guy got sick on the mezzanine/upper floor which was open and where we were supposed to sleep and we couldn't get the smell out of there.
Or renting a summer house in the middle of nowhere near a lake and completely disconnecting, that was awesome too.

I need to do this again. Shit it was nice.

Yea yea you've been promising that for years. We can keep it lower key if your wife must come.

Can make it a booze and food fest weekend.

And then sneak away while the wife sleeps for some debauchery.

2 years. 2 years.

I'm well aware that I need to get my act together. But, to be fair, Little Cha's health challenges has also affected alot of our plans.

And yeah, the wife is likely going if I'm headed to Vegas. The good news is, Vegas is the one city where you can act like a buffoon with the boys, come stumbling back at some ungodly-hour into your suite and realize the poop you're in with the significant other and quickly book it down to the lobby and buy an I'm-so-sollee gift from a name-brand boutique.
