I just installed an emulator on my PS3 last night so I can play ATARI games too if I wanted 
Downloaded Super Mario Bros and Donkey Kong Country for SNES to scratch that itch
It's trip playing that shit in scaled up 1080P 
I'm in the process of downloading all the Dance Dance Revolution ROMs I can find

My PS3 took a shit right before Covidpocalypse.
For ever I've had it sitting flat because way back in the day putting the old PS on its side would confuckulate the sensor or some shit. But in an effort to gain a little more space for cooling the DVR, I tipped the PS3 on its side.
And then the optical sensor fucked right off.
So I guess I'm waiting for the PS5. So I can use it once every 3 years.

I need to fix my fat backwards compatible 60GB PS3. Has the YLOD.
Should be a "simple" PITA fix by replacing those NEC/TOKIN capacitors.

Hmm. Yeah, I'll look into that. It is the fatty, early run too if I remember correctly... I think I got it pretty early on.

which model PS3. after doing research, it might not be the optical sensor at least for Fat PS3s. They use a faulty capacitor from NEC/TOKIN that are prone to breaking down due to heat.
Typically just need to replace those and the unit should work again.

If it only cant read a disc, then thats a different issue.
If it doesn't boot and gives you a yellow or red light. then it might be the issue i described.
Just google NEC/TOKIN Playstation 3.

I had a Backwards compatible PS3 as well but then i lent it to a friend and he got an YLOD.. 
Ended up getting rid of it, regret it, I wish i kept it until now so I had more time to just reflow or replace caps as needed.
But a few years later, my old roommate decided to dump his slim (not super slim) so i picked it up for cheap

I worked at a quality lab during the heyday of 360s and PS3s
Welp.. 360s were epic pieces of shit.. sooo...
I started fixing them by reflowing the CPU and GPU at the lab
I'd the use top secret thermal paste from people in the know, that would keep the cores super cool
I fixed roughly 20 360s and 4 PS3s
The 4 PS3s - 2 were optical drive, two was CPU
All the 360 reflows were solid
One one PS3 reflows didn't work.. and it was mine.

I have at least one I bought off fleabay as a bricked unit, bought it for the optical drive
Brought the bitch back to life, but no disc, just multimedia unit
