My last day here. Truth be told, the town is a dump. Used to have 5 coal mines and 2 steel smelters. All closed. Everyone laid off.
Buildings are generally covered in coal dust over the decades. Tons of graffiti everywhere. Abandoned buildings. Failing infrastructure. Lots of homeless. Lots of drunks. A figment of it's former prosperous self. Lots has changed in 50 years. Not the place you want to be out after sunset.
But.. you still see families together. Kids going to school. People walking all over the place. Somehow the people don't give up. Not all, anyway. This is my home. Where my mom grew up. I'll never forget this place, no matter how rough it gets.

Pretty much. I've taken some photos of the dumps around here, but it's enough to get me jumped. Not exactly a point of pride in many cases. Locals could take it as a sign of making fun of them.
Couldn't get pics of some of the worst stuff. Not a good idea.

It's just how it is here. This was our base camp. But we toured all over the place. We would come back sometimes late at night, but not wander through the streets and stuff. That's asking for it.

The square I'm drinking in has been maintained but just outside of it, it's like wtf... Some streets look like they're from Resident Evil 
Though I know there are plenty of places in the US that are scary AF. I live in a bubble. Edmonton might not be anything crazy overall, but the rough areas are fairly limited.
I can walk around with my dick out through 90% of the city and not worry about my safety.
