You are already cool, with or without Pete's neato key.

to csmeance:
You better not lose that valet key, dude. (At least until you get your new '07-style key)

to the Acura eStore:
Hurry up and get my blank key to me, so I can get it to Pete for machining.

to FLBusa:
You ROCK!

You guys do understand that the Acura eStore is NOT REALLY A STORE. The whole intent of the eStore is to prevent (2) trips to the dealer.

All the estore does is collect your parts and order information... and then passes that data to the Acura dealer you choose. Teh dealer you choose will then order the parts (and bill your card) as if you came to the parts counter.

If you have not been billed, you MUST contact the local dealer and have them follow through.

Excellent!!! $45 each is definitely worth it to me . . . . . I'm just waiting for instructions with keys in hand, for some reasone I can stop playing with it - push the button and flip, push the button and fold, push the button and flip, push the button and fold . . . . I'm too excited, maybe I can drive my keys down to FL from MI and watch! LOL, just kidding . . . .

FLBusa - excellent job!! only the factory could give us the same level of quality for this mod!! (at least judging from the pictures)

Also thanks to the admins for giving him vendor status!

Excellent work (again) FLBUSA.....I should have a key in hand tomorrow. Note...there are 90 some odd keys in stock at Acura warehouse for everybody to pull from. The parts guy checked inventory today (stating they were on backorder). If you need the dealer...it is Ed Martin Acura in Indianapolis. The parts dept there seems to have access to plenty?

This just excites me more than you know. I dont really care about the vendor thingy....thats SOP....but the fact of the ingenuity and thought/development/and now fruition of an absolute wonderful idea and excellent product. Truely a win win situation no doubt and what this country is all about! Excellent idea and execution!!! A++

And talk about timing...my Dobies ate my damn keys last week. Got it all back (thanks to that battery probably acting up grounding out in stomache juices and making Apollo a little weazy). He yaked it all back out except the damn red panic button....and in peices! Only thing he didnt eat was the circuit board....it went under the chair (thank god). I guess thats what you get from a 100# dobie trying to act cool in front of his sister doing "key swallowing acts". I was SO pissed too. And of course...I go out with the #2 key...and my car doesnt know me anymore....(never been used). So your key is a NO BRAINER for me!

Busa,
I demand you post a list of the folks already contacted you so I can see where I stand on the list. I was one of the first IF you go by the thread and few down on the list if yougo by the PMs. I contacted the National Organization For TL Key Cutters On Acurazine (N.O.F.T.L.K.C.O.A) and they said I have rights. I want my rights. I wont breathe again until you tell me.

Believe it or not....he took it like nothing even was a big deal at all? Other than me freaking out about it....he just sat there like it didnt bother him a bit. Dog eats everything! It has eaten part of the chimney off my house if you can believe it....thats when I knew...whoa....I am gonna have a problem here! They are only 9 months old or so...maybe 10 months...so they are just about to the "chill out period" thank god! So when it gets warm out again...I wont have to fence the inside of my fence, basically fencing my house from the dogs in the fenced in area...but now working on growing a new back yard I guess....they are running it to mud!

I know right? But this is one funny as hell thread! It's good that everybody has a sense of humor. Pete is definitely one of the most stand-up guys in the business! He should be president of Acurazine, not a mere mortal vendor!

(Hey Pete, is that enough brown-nosing for a cool-ass carbon fiber set of keys?)

Ok, ok, ok...I'll take the regular ones - that's my final offer!

I was wondering how you guys were going to send yours?

I was planning on going insured USPS Priority both ways. I was planning on using putting my self addressed stamp envelope in there as well. That way all he has to do is put the key in, seal it up, and drop it in the mail.

Can you insure a self addressed stamp envelope?

I was thinking I would use Fedex since I could then watch the progress, I've found them and DHL have very good online tracking - UPS is hours or even a day behind . . . . . but the last UPS package I sent was through a UPS store and their tracking site was more up to date than the regular UPS tracking (i.e. ups.com did not show the package as "out for delivery" but the link from the store did)

I beleive UPS/Fedex/DHL all have a base insurance that covers up to a few hundred dollars of value . . . . just don't forget to declare the value . . . .

I just have to figure out how to do a return label . . . . .

That's simple...just fill one out and stick it in the box or package with your order/money. When he finishes, he just applies the new label over the old one and ships it back!

Ultimately you'll have to make the decision on your own. I'll be there for ya either way.

BTW... a replacement key for an '04-'06 TL is $45.00... the remote is $95.00. That's $140.00 and you haven't even gotten it cut and programmed yet.
If you get a good deal in cutting/programming then your only talking $20 more than a replacement fob for your existing key.
oops....don't get me wrong. I know that you have many underlying costs that we won't see, including your time and free time outside of your normal job.

PLEASE don't take my thinking out loud to be a negative to what you have done here for all of us.

I will most likely be getting the key done, its just that I have 4 keys already that work perfectly fine, and this would be my 5th. Gonna be hard to explain this one to the GF....lol

Note....we/he should probably pick ONE shipper to deal with...otherwise you guys are gonna run the cost up due to him having to run all over hells half acre to five different shippers every day. Let him decide....it will be best. (my guess anyway)

Good point!

Any of the Big 3 would be fine, FedEx, UPS, USPS, they pickup from my work every day and setting aside packages for them to pick up is no problem. There's even a box for each just 40' away from the front door. DHL and other carriers would need to be a special pickup. If it were me... it would be FedEx or UPS.

I'm not. ...and I didn't .

I'm aware that there will be those that just can't justify spending X dollars on a key mod. There's plenty of stuff that I personally wouldn't spend the money on and well... then there's stuff I would.

Actually... I'm having a lot of fun doing the key mod. It's been awhile since I've done a side project and it's good to be back in the saddle again.

Since you already have an extra key... you might consider getting it cut and then selling it. Or... it might just be too nice to sell.

Pete

A key blank could be made from prepreg type carbon fiber....would be expensive and not worth it at all though. The mold to produce a unit with strength and exactness like this would be around $4000 - $5000 alone - if that gives you any idea . Then being able to accurately mill it for each individual key would be very problematic. Kinda cool idea though.

I've measured the length of my 2gen TL key and 3gen TL key, they both have the same size and same design of remote control. I am not sure if it works but I am very interested to get one.
If you know how it goes, please let me know. I will buy the key from you and let you make one for me. THanks.

The chip inside of the '07 key will not work with 2nd Gen TL's unfortunately. I haven't confirmed that the key part works either so I would not recommend that you go out and buy a key from the dealer. If you have a 3rd Gen key in your possession, I would suggest that you try it in your lock. If it fits (it obviously won't turn the lock) then we know that at least the key part works for 2nd Gen's. If that's the case then you'd have to cut a chip out of one of your key and locate it inside of the fob somewhere.
Pete
Own an 02 TL and an 05 TSX (lists omron on the back of the key fob)
Both keys go into the other's lock easily.
Seeing that the newer TSX and TL's are compatible with this mod, it looks extremely likely that the 2nd Gen TL's can use FLBusa's key.

I think he was talking about the outside case!! At least I hope so. As far as the actually key piece, bad idea. If the case was CF, then that would be cool. Hint, hint MB!!!

Thanks for checking the keys...

So the 2nd and 3rd gens use the same key blank but...

There's always a but.

The chips are different, which means that you'd have to cut out your old chip and locate it somewhere in the remote for it to work.

The TSX will work without modification.

Still don't know if the remote will work though.

i have the rdx remote and i'm trying to program the remote to my tsx with no luck so far as i was in a rush but when i get the tl remote i ordered last week, i'll try the remote sequence again.
i'm going to do the jbweld mod for the rdx key for my brother's 95 legend gs
and i'll do the flbusa's mod with my 02 tl. If the remote doesn't work, I'll have to figure out a workaround. i already am committed to cut and pasting the chip into the new transmitter so i'm okay with that.
