Gates is fine. In many cases they are the OEM.

I have 55K on the Gates water pump, no issues. There are plenty of Azine members who have used the Gates kit/water pump and I've heard of zero issues. I wouldn't worry about it in the least.

I wouldn't run any critical component that's made in China unless there's no other choice. Been there, done that, got burned several times, won't do it again.

2 bad reviews out of 65? Meh. The one dude can't even use proper grammar or spelling, so rule that moron's review out. The other dude had leaks. Probably because he fucked up the gasket when installing it.
I don't remember the stamping on my Gates pump, but it definitely didn't have China on it (not that I'd really care). And Honda/Acura isn't using Aisin water pumps any more. I forget who they switched to.

-have someone view the side mount from the outside of the car
-put the car in drive
-put your foot on brake strong
***BE CAREFUL***
-accelerate just so... to the point where the engine shifts slightly...
-look for play/cracking on side mount
-Alternate between reverse and drive and do this method
IF ITS BROKEN IT WILL BE ABUNDANTLY CLEAR
**PLEASE BE CAREFUL**

Btw, I am getting a bit ahead of myself but what is the re-learning process again when ready to test drive it

If you mean the CKP pattern learn procedure, it can't be done without an HDS. I don't know of any of us DIYers who did it and there have been no problems not doing it.

It seems to speed up the process if you let it sit there and find idle. Then rev it and let off quickly so it has to find idle after snapping the throttle closed. Put it in drive , let it find idle, then back in park. Put it in drive again and with the brake on, blip the throttle easy and quickly. Turn the AC on with it in gear and out of gear. Do each step a few times until it seems to get it.
All of this is learned normally and naturally from driving and these steps aren't necessary unless you want to speed up the process. This is my way that I came up with, the manual probably has something different if it has anything at all. All it's doing is putting the ECU through different idling scenarios that it would encounter on the street but you're doing them all at once and several times in a row. If you really need to get it perfect quickly, do it while the engine is cold and again when it's hot but that's REALLY not necessary. If you can think of any other idle scenario I didn't mention, it would probably be a good idea. This still won't get you a perfect idle right away but it will be close.
Good luck with the install. Have a heating pad and some pain killers/alcohol ready for the day after.

To add, the dealer probably does their relearn procedure because many customers would bring the cars back before they got home if they were hunting for idle and almost stalling.

Based on the SM procedure, I get the impression that the ECU/PCM will not initiate a CKP pattern learn without first being reset and a reset can only be done via the HDS...
