Acura App on Iphone

Went to NYC and was not sure I locked my car in the Union Station garage. Connected to the RLX and got status. It showed I had locked the car. Just to be sure I used the remote function and sent the command and it acknowledge the locking.

Pretty neat and cool app.

I am sure some enterprising soul can figure out how to add more functions to the app as well as visualization of the car's performance operations.

Will all of the techy/geeky operations of the HYBRID SH-AWD, Acura, should provide an app that provides real time performance info...I think it goes with the nature of the car.

What do you guys think and what functions should we ask Acura to develop?

Thanks

For me, the best feature would to be able to send a route to the NAV system. Not an endpoint, but an actual route from a mapping app, so that I can decide how I want to get to NYC before I get into the car. Might require software changes to the NAV system, though.

Great idea...I found this part to be interesting...the company behind Acuralink is https://www.agero.com/about...

Specifically called out is the RLX: https://www.agero.com/news-events/ne...ext-generation

If I have a complaint about the AcuraLink iOS application, it is how long it takes to communicate.

It's like it has to wake up a part of the car, verify that it is awake, send your command, and then verify that the car got the command and executed it.

I'm not sure anybody could do any better, and it's a very handy thing to have, but you do have to sit there just looking at your iPhone for a couple of minutes, sometimes.

:-)

Remote start. OnStar has this functionality.

But, I fear that if they do add it in, I won't be able to enable it on the 2014 RLX, even though I have the dealer-installed remote start.

The dealer-installed remote start uses a key fob, so it's not useful unless you are within range. About the only place that is helpful is at home, if you park your car outside.

I live in Texas, so I'd really like to start the car before I start to walk back to my car from the office, mall, etc. It's nice in the winter, but I really want it for the summer.

Please, I've never understood whether the accessory remote start transmitter replaces the factory transmitter.

If you get Remote Start, do you carry one transmitter, or two?

At one time, that's apparently what happened: you got a new remote with an extra button. That's how it was explained to me, and that's what I expected.

But I got an additional remote. It's a bit bulkier than the original remote. My wife doesn't like it, and won't even carry it in her purse.

It can also be used to lock and unlock the car, but not to start the car. It also has some additional functionality over simply "press this button to start". There's an LCD window that confirms a connection with the car, and that the engine has started. Then, there's a countdown timer to when the engine will shutoff automatically, starting at 10 minutes.

Of course, the problem is compounded by the fact that you are not communicating with the car. You are communicating through your cell connection over the internet to Acura's server somewhere, which then sends a wake up signal over the car's phone line to query its status, which it then sends back to the server which sends it back to you...

I, too, am annoyed with the delay, and because of it find the whole "car dashboard" part of the AcuraLink package less than useful. In fact, I'm finding the whole thing not worth paying for (I'm on the 90 day trial), so I may just go back to the traffic only (which I also am having trouble with because it's so hard to see). I love the car, and the in-car electronics, but I am not that impressed with the AcuraLink service, especially given its cost. Even the ability to call and ask for directions has missed a couple of times for me when the car's cell connection couldn't connect even though my own phone could.

The OnStar app is just as slow to respond to my CTS-V. I'm just used to the delay and frankly wasn't expecting better from Acura on that score. Perhaps, eventually, the hardware will progress such that the delay will be shorter.

What saves it for me is being able to get a nice, polite and instantly helpful human being to send directions to the car.

Where I usually live, work and travel, I can usually get connected well.

Recently, by the way, the connections sound a lot better than they used to.
