Map Update is "live"

That didn't work for me. I've started it several times, but I haven't been able to leave it on for more than about 45 minutes at a time, so it never finishes. I've had the USB stick in all week and still nothing.

Got a call from Acura Customer Support yesterday, and they said they are aware of the problem that many of the 2019 RDXs were not in the database, and that they are working to get the database fixed. They said they would get back to me as soon as it's fixed. Fingers crossed, but not holding my breath! Lol
Does anyone know specifically what got updated???

I think there is probably enough info here that a sticky thread should be created to sum everything up. Funny enough, I dropped my car off at dealer this morning on unrelated issue and they had no freaking idea how to do any of this map update process, so that was comforting.
- What do it if your VIN is not recognized
- Contact info for HERE
- Use USB stick no larger than 64GB
- Ensure it is formatted FAT32 (with instructions for how to do that)
- Download will take a long time, probably hours
- Have car on but not engine running, turn off HVAC and headlights to minimize battery drain
- Plug USB directly into console USB port (no USB hubs/splitters)
- Should get a popup message saying maps are updating, but no progress indication whatsoever
- ~1hr later, should see message saying update is complete

Engine running is fine (as long as you're not in a closed garage, for obvious reasons).
Instructions say car can be driven normally while map is updating (though I'm not sure if nav will work while updating).
Infotainment works just fine while map is updating.

I'd also like to see more than HERE contacts, but Acura provided contacts for all needs that apparently the dealers can't do, don't know how to do, or won't do because they consider it out of scope... Infotainment update issues, map update issues, Acuralink issues, VIN issues, etc.

I also was at the dealer today, getting the "squealing brakes" TSB done. My dealer also said they have no information on a map update in their system. But hopefully I won't wake the neighbors anymore as I drive down the alley every cold morning.

So I got this from HERE. I inquired since my car was not in the database. Thank you for inquiring about HERE Technologies. Currently Acura does utilize our map databases; however, we do not produce or distribute map updates for the 2019 RDX at this time, so we are unable to do installation support for this product. For more information please contact your nearest authorized Acura dealership.
Does anyone actually know. Always something.

Map update
I got home this afternoon and checked to see if the website would recognize my vin, and sure enough it did. I guess the Acura customer service person got it fixed. I formatted a 32 Gb usb, and downloaded the here down loader. I am now downloading the North America maps. If the site is correct it will take about an hour. I have a 225 mbps download-speed. I’m hoping it all goes well.

I got the same email from here maps, but it downloading now. I used the AcuraNavi.navigation.com website and have about 30 more minutes to get it downloaded, then out to the car to see if it actually works. Fingers crossed!

Almost 2 weeks in and e-mail response #3 from HERE...."go to https://acuranavi.navigation.com" and enter VIN. Yep, the very place I started where my VIN doesn't work. So I bite...the result...VIN doesn't work. Thanks HERE, thanks Acura software team. Acura...you built a decent vehicle. The software team....the worst. How does the NAV app on my $700 phone work....perfectly and always updated over OTA-wi-fi-whatever seemingly no problem. On my $46K car? Seems to be a real mystery.

Just imagine if Acura sent something out to it's customers (you know who we are.....)..."dear Acura buyer, thank you for purchasing your 2019 RDX. We understand some of you have had VIN issues updating your NAV with our free quarterly map updates (...LOL...quarterly....as if... ) We are aware of this issue and are working on it. We'll let you know as soon as the issue is resolved.
Crazy, right? Some might say....Acura would have done even better to say "dear Acura buyer...we are happy to let you know your 2019 RDX has a NAV map update available. This update is different than the OTA updates to the infotainment system you are familiar with and the vehicle does not notify you of this update. Please follow these instructions to get it.
Ughhh...I think I have too much time on my hands today.

It’s probably a case of sheer incompetence and lack of consistent training with a dose of guilt for being caught with their pants down. If you decide to call back see if you can have them transfer you to Lauren. She knows about the issue. I put up some useful info in one of my previous post that might help. It included an email address for HERE to send your Proof of VIN, address, phone number, and address to them to add to the database. It took them just over a week to add mine.

It’s now 0520 and I have been in my car for over an HOUR trying to plug in this dam FLASH DRIVE to update my map after finally being able to down load it last night. For the life of me it plugs in every other USB PLUG in this car just fine except for the main one. No it’s not damaged or bent. Today I hate this car and we’ll see if I feel the same after work. Oh yea my lightning cable plugs in just fine.

So 13 days after I sent a photo of the VIN nameplate to HERE, my VIN finally appeared when I checked the download site. Took just under 2 hours to download, then another hour for the info system to upload it to the car. Works fine, has at least one of the areas where I travel updated with the new roads, but the subdivision next door which is almost two years old still doesn't exist in the map. You have to wonder if Apple/Google/Microsoft et al had this much trouble updating their systems we would all still be using flip phones and writing batch files in MS-DOS 3.3. Acura and HERE have some soul-searching to do in the coming years.

Does the installation stop when the car turns off? If so, you need the car on or running for 50+ minutes?
Thanks ...

14 days after I sent my VIN, a picture of my VIN and my database version to Acura and HERE, I still can't download the update. The website says it is still unable to find my VIN. I've been on the phone with Acura and HERE today and they say they are working on it, but still can't give me a time when my VIN will be added to the database. Just keep waiting, I guess. 🤫

The manual suggests it.

• Do not leave the iPod or USB flash drive in the vehicle. Direct sunlight and high temperatures may damage it.
• We recommend using an extension cable with the USB port.
• Do not connect the iPod or USB flash drive using a hub.
• Do not use a device such as a card reader or hard disk drive, as the device or your files may be damaged.

someone may have already mentioned this but I don't know why Acura doesn't use GarminExpress like the Honda vehicles. It's always worked perfectly for my 2016 Accord and I get 2-3 updates per year and no charge. Has an app that installs right on the desktop screen. I just check it every few months and it tells me if I have an update or not. Not sure if the 10th gen Accords use GarminExpress or maybe those switched to HERE as well?
My RDX wasn't on the database, so I sent an email.

Went out tonight and bought another 32 GB flash drive. Plugged it into the main USB and it fits without issue. My previous one is a hair too small for the one in the car. So I'm doing the download again. I even removed the cover around the USB plug and tried that way and the old one would still not fit. So I did have a bad drive.

Besides, why let the companies that have been designing and selling navigation equipment for decades have all the fun? How hard can it be?
Current Pilot and CR-V use Garmin head-unit software and update maps via Garmin Express. It's a bit clunky, and the overall interface is dated, but it works. There were problems when the Garmin system first came out in my 2016 Pilot, but eventually they got worked out. Just in time for me to buy a new car with a completely F'd up system...
BTW, Garmin Express can be set to display a notification on your computer when map updates are available. What a quaint concept. Maybe Acura could do something like that.
