Map Update is "live"

I went to see if there was a map update and there was. The Here site downloaded an app on to my Mac and then when I clicked "download" it is supposed to put the map on the USB stick. Haven't figured out if it worked.

Anybody else have any experience? Maybe a Windows machine?

Billy

That is farther than I got. My Mac opened the downloader window, but it doesn't look like anything is happening.

Are you using Windows or a Mac Madd Dog?

Windows. The first effort failed. I then reformatted the usb, reinstalled the downloader and it is downloading now.

I only got to 1% on the first try. Now it is is at 15%.

Go to acuranavigation dotcom.

Have your VIN

Have a clean 32G + stick.

Follow the screen.

If past experience with Honda/Acura USB stuff applies, "clean" means "freshly formatted". Not just files deleted and trash emptied, but freshly formatted with a brand spanking new directory structure. Or fresh out of the box.

Still not working for me. I have tried 16, 32, 64 GB FAT formatted drives.

Have tried to contact Here tech support.

I don't know offhand, and I installed it during a small window before they pulled it, and it kept giving me a 'map out of date' error.

This is the map being downloaded:

North America Map

Latest map database version available: 2019.07.08

"We are unable to find the VIN provided. Please check the VIN and try again or contact us."

BTW, my map version is 2018.10.18, after I was "lucky" enough to install two previous short-lived updates.

The format I did was a FAT 32 format on a 32 gig drive. IIRC, 32 G is the minimum size.

Some folks were unable to do the regular update as Acura couldn't find their VIN in the update database.

The same thing could be happening here.

Same problem here. I've tried copying the VIN from a text file and typing it in manually. My map version is 2018.02.16.

If anyone has figured out a way to fix this problem, please post how you did it.

I am shocked by the apparent unreliability. Shocked.

OTOH every dog has his day...

BTW, I'm on a Mac with the current OS ( 10.15.1 ), using Safari. Maybe I'll try FireFox just for grins. < edit > Nope.

I bet they limited the number of VIN’s that could download the MAP update to not crash the servers. Look at this way some of us are now the Guinea pigs for this MAP update

I was able to install it, but, obviously, have not done anything with it.

But it did install. I wrote the new date down, but I must have messed up the date since what I wrote was 2019.08.08, but that seems wrong. Will check it tomorrow.

Mine updated successfully. Update is 7.8.2019 and it took about 45 minutes roughly. So far no “Maps out of date” error message

Try to calculate a route to a destination. If you feel lucky.

I did do that right after doing the restart required to complete the map update. I calculated a route home and no error messages.

I entered VIN and map version (2018.02.16) and it allowed me to download maps - about 15GB of it. At the end it provided installation instructions, but IT DOES NOT WORK. My drive was just formatted/erased FAT32. Car can see it, but says it cannot play music - "No Data". They said plugging the drive would start installation in all modes. I tried and waited long time - nothing happens. There is "HereMapsV1" directory on the drive and all maps are in subdirectories below - perhaps they should be in the root directory? Have you encountered something similar?

Why do you need a map update? If you have Nav configured to use connected features the manual says it connects to the server to use the most up to date driving info. Doesn’t that include updated map info?

I'm getting the same "VIN is not in our database" error. Anyone that has the file, can you upload it somewhere the rest of could download it? It would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I started with a freshly (re)formatted FAT 32 stick of 32 GB, and a fresh installation of the download program. It took more than an hour to download. I then took it to the car, and it took about an hour to upload, with no indication as to what was going on, other than the stick’s blinking light, and every new start of nav, and ‘updating navigation’ banner would show for a few seconds.

Maybe it is downloading? Go to the home screen. Then start Nav. See it you get a banner about map updating. Make sure the car is fully booted before you hook up the stick, and use the USB in the cupholder area, that is the only one that connects to the system. The others are for charging only.

Windows machine with about 100M speed.

I had downloaded and installed the update last fall with no problem (other than the constant “map out of date” error I now get), but last night I also got the "We are unable to find the VIN provided. Please check the VIN and try again or contact us." So just for fun, I also tried to see current service offers on the Acura client web site, and when I enter my VIN there, it says "Not a valid ACURA VIN. The VIN entered was not found. Please check your VIN, and click the Re-Enter VIN button below to try again." I opened a ticket with Acura.

I think I read somewhere that the download and install is VIN specific.

Yeah, from the dowload site: Maps purchased and downloaded will only work in the selected vehicle and are exclusive to the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) entered.

Madd Dog - When you reference "Maps purchased", is HERE charging RDX 3G owners for this update? I hope not. I have read releases from Acura some time ago that we would get periodic updates for free for 4 or 5 years or something in that range.

No charge. That sentence is just copied from the website.
