A heat pump would have been a huge help, but unfortunately the Mach-e and the ID.4 (in the US) don't have one. Canadians (and probably Europeans) get the heat pump in the ID.4. Hopefully they add it in the US as well, at least as an option. Volvo offers the heat pump as an option on the XC40 (and probably the C40), it's standard on all current Teslas.
heat pumps are worthless in -20f weather, even the Teslas. Conventional heat pumps check out in the teens or even higher, functionally when balancing vehicle heat loss against function of the pump.
The one in my rav4 prime functioned very poorly under 20f.

Will do OK in the populated areas of CA too. I’m in the Sacramento area and we are usually mid 30’s in the worst of winter and that too only at midnight. If it is impacted by high wind then that could be a negative since we do have many windy days that make it feel colder than the temperature by itself.

I doubt wind matters, but look how bad climate control eats it up. Get stuck in a traffic jam behind a wreck in -15*f weather and a few miles mine strand you.
So much for a car without issues. Limp mode in -18-23f weather. Unable to heat the car interior at highway speeds in even milder weather. Sounds amazing.

I am seeing similar results. 2021 FWD RDX. Drive 20 miles one way to work, 18 traffic lights. Just bought this vehicle used with 8,200 miles. First two tanks averaging 26.1. Can't wait to see what it gets on the highway.
Haha, this is way overblown. I leave my Mach E outside and it was 28F this whole week, and my range did drop yes, but went down to 200 instead of 270 as advertised. However, Ford also tends to underestimate their ranges from what I've read. I also only charge to 90% to maximize battery life instead of full 100%. If I had charged it to 100%, my range would've been around 220 so would've been a 50 mile drop from advertised.
The reason for the drops is that people will naturally turn on the heat, which eats up the battery. What you do is in the morning, turn on the heat while plugged in to get the cabinet warm (the heating system works really quickly because you don't need to warm up the engine for the heat to work.) The rest of the drive, I just keep the heated seats and heated steering wheel on.
Either way, I don't drive more than 100-150 miles daily, so it doesn't affect me at all. Winter only happens for 4 months of the year as well, and rarely goes below 20F (only two days of the year I see this happen in central PA)

Speaking of limp mode, you should look at the RDX and the 'limp mode' complaints especially when it is raining outside. Way more than the Mach E proportional wise.
You can always find someone who had an issue with their car, but the RDX had WAY more in its debut.
Either way, the car suits me fine. EV isn't for everyone but for those who don't have to commute more than 150 miles daily, it is great. If you're concerned, then get a different EV that does have a heat pump so you don't have as much of an issue.

He also bought the small battery version of the vehicle, and he didn't do his research prior to buying it. It's quite common that this happens, but besides you, how often do we drive more than 100 miles a day commute? That would mean you drive about 24k miles a year based on your driving (100 miles roundtrip a day at 5 days a week would yield 500 miles a week, so about 2k miles a month.) Most people live within 60 minutes from their workplace, so usually would work at most 120 miles roundtrip. An extended range battery would've easily fixed his issues. But then again, he could also buy a Tesla or Jaguar iPACE instead. I live only 5-10 miles from my workplace, so all of this doesn't matter to me. I drive only 120 miles each way if I go visit family but that's twice or three times a year. I would just charge it in one of the NJ charging stations for free (there's a free municipal one in my hometown.)
Ford also underestimates range, so it is likely it is way more than what was showing on his screen. Nobody is going to actually test the range of the Mach E for fear of dying on the road. Plus, usually, you don't usually own an EV by itself; you always have a PHEV/hybrid or ICE for longer road trips on the side.
I'm still looking for a Rav4 Prime, and I've only found three dealers so far willing to let it go at MSRP around me, but would need a month or two wait.
Here's a comparison of average miles driven per year by state- none of them drive nearly as much as you do except drivers in Wyoming. You live in NY, so you're driving about 2.5x the average driver. https://www.thezebra.com/resources/d...-year-by-state

You live in a mild area. That works. Not for me, though. Also, no insulated heated garage at work. Car is cold soaked.
temp display between tach and speedo near the bottom.

Yeah, for you, I would probably go for the PHEV like R4P. You were wise in getting one of them. I used to live in Boston but it was rare to get down to -19F.

The last car I kept a while had 80k miles on it. I bought it March 2019 and traded it Sept 2021, I beleive.
I live in the midwest. I prefer rural location to city. Its worth it to me to drive.

Ahh alright, my bad. Yes, you do drive quite a bit, so EV would not work for you. I understand now.

the economy of the Prime wasn't worth the soul sucking experience of it. Id like something hotter thsn the rdx, but I loath maintenance queens and finicky designs, so the germans are out.

I currently own a regular Rav4, and I'm pretty sure the Prime would definitely be better than that in terms of driving experience.
???? Are you on drugs or are you hitting on the bottle again?
Right because there just happens to be two people from CO who talk about their age all of the time and all of the vehicles they have owned, come into threads and make wild accusations that make no sense, have that really bizarre writing format...

Yes, but also, you get tired of having a 300hp/400+tq vehicle that can't put it down except from a roll. It's a very boring experience after you goose it a few times and kill a few base camaro/mustangs and WRX's.
One of our MD's drives a Tesla Model 3 Performance. He got home from work a while back with 12% remaining. When it gets -10*F or so, EV's aren't worth a damn. Yes he commutes a bit, but still... Also, in case of emergencies, you can't get ANYWHERE fast. Gotta charge up, stop, charge, etc. You can't drive 600mi at the drop of a hat to be at a family member's bedside, etc. Oh no mate. Your fancy little car is going to hold you up bigly.
I'm not going to drive 10 hours to get to a family member's bedside....I'd fly instead. Try to be realistic 🤣
Goodbye from the RDX is not really goodbye for me as I still own a 2022 Acura MDX.
Fine. Just say goodbye and start a new thread that says "I Bought a Ford", that way folks that don't care about Fords won't waste their time with the thread when they think they are just going to say "Goodbye". Simple, just keeping a thread on topic. It makes forums easier for everyone.

With no malice or disrespect intended.
You asking won't work. I've tried that. He just keeps talking about his electric mustang.

The ex Acura RDX owner is just sharing the future with us all (his MME GT). Now that gas prices in most regions are $4-$7 a gallon and rising, he pays to have an open mind to mod=re cost effective energy. Don't see a ton of people running in to buy a big truck or SUV these days - shock at the gas station to fill the tank is almost 5x from 2 years ago...

Until the EV future actually happens here in the USA, the USA oil companies need to open many, many more of the wells they closed during the pandemic and start pumping as well as using the 9,000 plus approved permits (to drill) they've been sitting on. Why pump and drill more when you can gouge the public?? It is a shame. The USA has the oil but..... we don't want to pump it out of the ground.

Better odds in picking the Powerball winning numbers before the current administration turns around all the bills they signed to do away with being USA energy independent. Those are facts. MSM will not cover any of those stories. EV's are here to stay and growing in demand, funded by the gov't charging stations and rebates) and will accelerate with oil prices north of $100 (let alone $130) a barrel. Bet 90%+ of the population is screaming UNCLE after a 5x increase at the pumps in 12 months. Oil affects everything, not just gas at the pumps. cloths, bottles, shoes, packaging and etc...

You can't be independent until you pump and drill. The holes are in the ground and the approved permits for more wells are on the table. Why aren't the oil companies pumping and drilling????

FREE education - do some research, plenty of my friends in the oil business are suffering due to this halt over the last 15 months and this new stance against America oil drilling. Biden Administration Halts New Drilling in Legal Fight Over Climate Costs. The Interior Department is pausing new federal oil and gas leases and permits after a judge blocked the government from weighing the cost of climate damage in decisions.Feb 22, 2022
Without a comprehensive go green or EV plan in America, this is the craziness will we see for a long time. Govt thinks it can happen overnight, but no detailed plan to implement in stages.
My guess, is all the huge SUV's and trucks will creator in sales now (similar to 2008-2009) that oil prices have risen rapidly to an all time high and predict to keep going up.

So you're saying there are NOT 9000 approved permits that have been approved and not excercised by the oil companies. If the judged blocked new ones, so be it. That is for another argument.
One more time.....there are 9000 APPROVED (UNUSED) drilling permits. Why aren't the oil companies using them??? Please don't bring up new leases again. Please answer my question.
First eat what is already on your plate.

Educate us Mr. ColoRDX. This craziness never happened in the past, who is blocking it high up to push the green initiative or pad their pockets. We are in a mess, that is what is on the USA plate with the current administration. Hard to swallow that plate right now. In the end, the USA population is suffering with what we are not going here.

Why won't you answer my simple question. Read what you said "who is blocking it high up" I'm not understanding your grammar.
Man.......this has been about 1/2 of an hour of my life I'll never get back. Never mind answering my question. Have a good evening.

Goes for any brand. A car driven hard tends to have more issues. I wouldn't buy a car used as a loaner or a rental.
bought my 2015 cx5 after it spent 27k miles as a rental. Great shape, no issues at all in 100k miles that could he traced to rental use except an initial bad alignment. Quality vehicles can easily withstand rental or track use.

what if I told you that the US exported more oil than it imported in 2021? People just don't know, lol

Ehh, when I bought it, the RDX has less than 12k miles. That’s basically nothing and was pretty much brand new. Only was in service for 6 months as a loaner.
