So I just bought this and I love it! Every feature in it outperforms my 2018 Audi S5 Sportback except the backup camera. Does anyone else have complaints about this? Its doesn't appear to be HD and the views are not that good. My Audi camera is 10x better. Is there a software update or fix to make it better?

 

Similar to my 2021 RDX Aspec. The rear camera is not that high quality, and relying on it (at least for me) when backing up and getting close to stuff is not accurate. Don't believe there is any software update to the rear camera. It's more likely the quality of the HD on the rear camera.

 

No, the video feeds are processed by the 360 control unit down to composite analog signal feeding into the LCD module, so unfortunately nothing you can do because the analog interface limits the resolution to SD quality. On MDX and non-Advance RDX, the interface is LVDS digital, so probably at 720p resolution.

 

Wow so its better quality on the non -advance and A-Spec? Thats odd

 

It would be a lot better if the back up camera was full screen like on the non-Advance models, and the 360 view was located in the side panel instead of that stupid icon of a camera. Not sure why they didn't do that. Must have something to do with the hardware, but I do miss the full main screen back up camera that I had on my 19 A-Spec. However I am getting used to it, but it took a few days

 

This has been a complaint since the first third-gen cars. Surprised they haven’t fixed it.

 

Well darn re backup camera! I’m trading in an Audi Q3 for RDX Advance. I hopefully will get it by the end of February. Maybe I need to try not looking at my backup camera in my Q3 so I’m not disappointed in the RDX camera. But then again, not looking at my Audi backup camera could end up decreasing the value of my trade-in.

 

LOL. Yea you might be a little disappointed. I was just shocked that every single feature is top of the line but the camera. It reminds me of cameras from 10+ years ago.

 

Now that its been about 15 months since I posted this, has anyone figured out how to make the camera better? Maybe replace with a 2023 camera? I'm still shocked at how bad it really is. Its a shame Acura thinks that quality is acceptable.

 

I just bought a 2023 A spec Advance 3 weeks ago and I'm very happy with it, except for the camera. The resolution is terrible. My 2017 Nissan has a better 360 camera. Everything else is premium, but the camera is bargain basement.

 

I been researching the car models I own on forums like this for 20 years now. Usually there’s owners that tinker with it themselves to improve things the manufacturer went cheap on. I’m hoping that’s the case with this.

 

I would add two things on the camera. One, I had not really ever thought about cleaning that little lens in the back, which in retrospect seems kind of stupid, but due a worsening display, the light bulb went off and voila, cleaned and much better. Also, you frequently never really know how good something is, or isn't, until you have a point of comparison. For us, that came via our SOLs new Ford Ranger. And yeah, that camera/display is much better/brighter/bigger...so therefor as so many have mentioned, no matter what, the RDX camera is good, but not great. If there was software or some-other way that it would have been improved I assume that Honda would have sent that out in an update.
