Back when I was messing with Corollas regularly, the big 86-day thing happened at Non Stop Tuning (NST). I don't remember where they are. North Houston or something? Maybe Chinatown area?

My butt-dyno says it's around +1-3 hp with them installed. Driving is a little more difficult now, but that's the price for performance, ammirite?

i do know that N/A engines have problems with altitude.

 

Yeah I thought this might be a reason as well.. but wanted to see if there was some chemical explanation as far as detonation of 93/91/87 and smog result. I figured Justin would/should know.

 

Higher octane = more resistance to detonation. In cars not tuned for 91/93, less fuel burnt = evaps through exhaust = smog.
