2G TSX Chat, Chit, and General Info Thread
Im going full catless.. I literally want to take out my 2nd CAT and weld in a resonator in it's place. VIT said the CAT needs to go ASAP before next data log.
So I'm hoping to gain more flow by deleting the cat
AND
kill the drone from the RV6 at the same time.
Full 3" exhaust is like $1000 right? Im thinking the resonator in place of the CAT will get me to the next stage. I just wanted to know if people were cutting the CAT and welding the resonator to the old CAT flanges, and if there is actually enough room to do that?

Is the stock one not 2.5" all the way back? I thought it was.
you can probably just have some shop weld you up one for wayyy cheaper than buying that. my friend found some local shop which only charged him 100 to weld up a removable test pipe on flanges.

But yeah I agree on local shops, Joeboe should try calling more shops. Maybe post in your regional subforum and see what people recommend. There's gotta be a shop out there that's willing to do this for you, and it shouldn't cost an arm and a leg. You'll likely just get mig welded type of work done, but maybe that's enough for you. The RV6 test pipe has no remarkable engineering behind it. It's just a tried-and-true pipe hahah
Joe I guess you can leave the catback alone for now. But I wouldn't be surprised if after deleting the cat, Vit says you're bottlenecked by the OEM catback haha
Curious, did you get any peak WHP figure on your last datalog with Vit?

I've called around and all the shops tell me no... idk if it's because they have to say that, or if the story would change if I came in person. @xtc I know RV6 pipe is nothing special, but I figured it would be a good backup plan if I mess up somehow. That way I could continue to tune with VIT.
I think you have to pay VIT to get some HP numbers.
@CU2 I already bought a 14" resonator (the same everyone else was buying at the time we were trying to figure out the best way to get rid of the RV6 rasp) with the rest of my SC parts, but I didn't know my 2nd CAT was causing so much restriction so I've been putting off getting it replaced.

Many eons ago, I tried a little trick when I was trying to work around some, uh "legal restrictions" with my project car: Stopped in at the local big-block Ford/Chevy 'murican Hot Rod shop. Now, they weren't too impressed with my little 1.6L 4-cylinder import, but the great thing about most good ol' boys is that money talks and if you chat them up a bit they usually start to see past the hood badge and will work with you from a gearhead sense.
Might be worth a try if you've got a shop like that around. Drive over and start shooting the shit with them, let them know what you're trying to do and they might start to drop some old school 1950s hotrod knowledge on you.
I mean, an I-4 is basically half a V-8 that they're familiar with. Supercharged V-8 isn't unheard of, so the exiting exhaust gas volume and velocity might not be too foreign to them. And the can probably use some rule of thumb or back of the envelope sketching to rough you up a full exhaust from your pipe back.
Plus those old dude are funny as hell and they always have those cool calendars, if you know what I mean!

Yes.. Most muffler shops if not all won't tell you they will work on your car over the phone in case you are a NARC especially if you have emissions laws in Ohio.. Just pull into a shop without your tag and registration and tell them it's a track car lol (get somebody with AAA and tow that hoe). Or just drive back down to orlando almost anybody will do it here lmao.. With that cat hack job your planning you are essentially throwing away a close to 300 dollar oem part just for its undersized flanges, if you have no qualms about doing that then just get the test pipe and hack up your cat back instead and throw a vibrant uq res just like everyone else has to install the additional res.
I guess Im gunna have to get under the car and do some measuring. I'm not even sure if the resonator that I have fits nicely where the secondary cat is. Its 14" in length, hopefully that's close to the same size as the CAT.
Yeah it's a $300 oem part, but no one needs/wants a CAT. I figured I could kill two birds with one stone, get rid of cat, and get rid of drone. I just didn't know if anyone has done this already, or if they are doing what you said, hacking up the catback exhaust (I honestly don't know how this is any better though, you're still ruining your exhaust system, at least I could buy another CAT and replace the resonator portion if I ever wanted to go back).

$300 lost vs buying an entire exhaust at like $500 + lol. Cutting it up will be way cheaper.
Recycling place. Getting scrap value for the platinum in the cat. Can be up to $100 a pop. You should be able to get some flanges cut for really cheap. Dunno, maybe able to buy some precut ones from an online shop.
Any muffler shop should be able to pull your cat and cut some flanges and straight pipe to make a test piece. I'd be surprised if it was more than $150 to do so. That way you've still got an intact stock cat for whatever reason.
You could always sell it yourself at one of the crack head cash spots.

Well May has already said they're a "package" and his twitter now supposedly says "former host".
I just hate change, even if they all 3 go on a new show, somethings will still probably change. Not how I expected the show to end.
