Hey Simplydoesit, simply call your local Acura dealership. They will need the VIN# and proof of ownership to replace your lost key. Other than that, it's got an theft deterrent ignition....so it'd be difficult to hot wire or swap out the ignition switch assembly due to the interlock system.
You will have to get it to the dealer to program the key to the ecu, unless you can find a locksmith that can cut the key to your ignition and program it. This is why a 70 dollar replacement key isn't so expensive to have done so you have a backup key
I know acuras are not like Fords, but I recently had to get a key made for a Ford Taurus because the last key was lost. The locksmith was able to do it because he had special equipment to cut the keys with chips in them, and he also had the equipment to code the key to the car. It still cost me $100. But it was a lot less then getting the car to the dealer. I would check around first.

My local lock smith only charged me $69 for a second key. We bought the car used and it only had one key, but since it was the primary key/original they were able to use an Acura/Honda generic programmable key. This was cheaper than the Acura/Honda chipped blank by $20. With the ignition being chipped/interlocked you can't get a back up unless you visit the dealer.
I went to my local acura dealer for a spare key for the new used 2001 TL I got with only one key. the dealer charged:
$32 for a blank key (with chip)
$10 for key cut labor
$118 for programmed.
adding tax, total invoice is $170. it's rip off but ....

thats ur best bet in most cases, i mean if u know programming and mechanics and got the tools u can go to a junkyard and hope that u find a acura with the keys still in it(good luck) and take off all the locks and swap them out which is ur cheapest bet, i had to do this for my monte carlo but it doesnt have a chip so i could easily program it from following internet directions but acuras are more complex, acura will make u a key if u bring them the title of the car and so what... i guess its ur only option so start saving sorry to hear that, i always make a copy each time i get a car at leave it at home on the key holder< i know it sucks to hear this from everyone but best prepare for next time, u can order an uncut key oem(chip inside) from ebay and get it cut or get one at walmart there cheaper than acura i got one for like 39 bucks if i recall, if u got autostart on ur car( i doubt it) but if u do most have to come with a spare key inside the vehicle inside a black box close to ur ignition harness..
good luck hope i helped

we have ordered keys online both when lost and when we wanted an extra set, quite convenient and a fairly cheap option
