have a wierd missfire problem

started happening monday. no sign or nothing. just happened one day and next day was all good. now it happens everyday only after work, not in the morning.
i feel the car misfire but not while in P or N. just in gear (moving or not) and when i go wot it doesnt misfire.

any suggestions? i seafoamed it through the vacuum line. only put in 91 octane. spark plugs? coil? but that would misfire all the time, right?

could be the coil doin that to you. ive seen that before. best way to diagnose it is to hook up a scanner with a misfire counter for each cylinder and have someone watch it while u put it in gear and see which cylinders giving you the problem so you can check out that cylinders plug and coil.

it shows each cylinder? if so were any a little higher than the others? try resetting it and monitoring it from startup and see what you get. watch for the first cylinder that shows up misfiring.

try switching coils from your cls to your tls. see if the problem is still there. at least you have another car to swap parts from to make diagnosing it easier.

I am getting the missfires as well. I read somewhere about doing one coil at a time. Can someone refresh my brains as to what is suppose to happen after i pull one coil at a time. How do i know which coil is not working?

I am removing the bar that runs across the engine so that i can get to the back coils/plugs. do i need to remove some other thing thats sitting sort of on top of the middle coil?

Thanks,

Will your scanner record? The way I finally figured out my TPS issue was by driving with the scanner in auto record mode. When the issue finally happened while the scanner was connected it started recording and grabbed it.

Could be a dual issue. If it gave you an ignition code it could be your ignition switch. The misfiring could also be a result of a camshaft or crankshaft position sensor as those can cause a shit ton of different problem including misfiring and overheating issues. I would do what you suggested and change out your coils and plugs since you have an extra engine at your disposal which kicks ass!!!

Burnt valve? Build up of carbon on top of piston or backs of valve?

I'm the original owner and use nothing but Mobil 1 synthetic and 91 octane since day 1..........I've been having the same issue for the last 4 months. At first I took it to a shop to diagnose. He showed me the tops of my pistons with a borescope? (full color screen, SnapOn). I couldn't believe it!!!! There was a huge shelf of carbon! I had him do a fuel injector cleaning, looked at it again. You could actually see where it had sprayed down and blew the center of the carbon away, but there was still a ton built up (kind of like when you take a garden hose and your spraying mud off a cement driveway, a ledge build up). SO I ended up changing all the coils and spark plugs, still misfired. I took it back and he checked every component on the engine (all the voltages for everything). Everything was fine, just this misfire crap. So I took the car home and did 3 cans of seafoam, that helped for about 3 months then light came back on. A week ago I took the top cover off of my intake and cleaned that (NASTY). Did Seafoam in the oil, gas tank, and intake, changed oil. Engine light has now been off for one week and car runs a little better. I can still tell there is a misfire. I have ordered all the top end gaskets, timing belt, water pump, (everything!) and I'm going to take the heads off and have them checked/rebuilt (couple months). I might have a bent valve from carbon build up or a burned up valve? I don't know but that's the path I'm going to take. While I have the heads off I can clean the tops of the pistons.

Happened this moring. Driving to work all is good. Stop at a light and then give it gas and it starts misfiring, u can feel and hear it. Then whil cruising on the higway it start misfiring again. At random times for a few sec. Does it over and over again. But when I go wot it doesn't misfire. Also misfires while its parked.

Haven't done anything to the car. Gonna change the plugs today. And coils tomorrow

just swapped out all my coils and looked at the spark plugs. same codes as before. but, driving to the store it was misfiring like always, but back from the store with a can of seafoam in my tank (1/2 tank of gas). went to another store right by my car. then driving back home it didnt misfire at all.

this car is one problem after another. just gonna fix it and sell it. maybe buy 09 civic or smart car (yes smart car). 60mpg so id be spending less than $3 of gas a day and throw some crazy offset rims on their haha

my whole car shakes at idle now and most times on the highway u feel the steering wheel shake badly, then other times its like it had no misfire at all. im leaning towards fuel injectors or crank shaft sensor.
my car has been sitting in one place for a year, then put in a new trans and drove it, worked great for 3-4month and now this happens out of nowhere, didnt touch the car in those months either.

that is good possibility. when i was doing my turbo build. one or two of the injectors had a cracked, um dont know what its called but a plastic like thing that over hangs a bit where the fuel squirts out, but it works great. and one injector would set off all those codes (or i think it wont), maybe just that one cylinder would be misfiring..

If you have swapped out your coils and plugs and still have it odds are its either your fuel injectors or your ECU

sounds more like fuel injectors bc when i go wot, all is good. so maybe a leaking injector, or a stuck open or closed injector until i go wot??

i dont have another ecu to swap. but ill check out the wires bc i had my neo hardwired into the harness. ill look at it later.

swap out the injectors from the CL? Use Vaseline on the O rings so that they slide in without tearing. Or drive up here and ill loan you mine to try out. I have been needing an excuse to take my intake mani off to port match things.
