Intake Resonator

Probably a stupid question but want a definitive answer; I removed the large intake resonator box as one of my first mods but as I was tinkering with something yesterday came across what appears to be a u-shaped additional resonator. Curious if once removed if I need to replace it with a cap of any sort or is it safe to leave open? Thanks in advance.

Why are you making these mods; you will not improve the performance of your car by doing so, and you may make it worse.

I've had the intake resonator mod done for about a year and have had no performance issues period. I also haven't questioned why anyone else has done what they've done to their car and am only expecting a simple answer in return. Thanks for your input however.

I thought that the u-bend thing was for catching moisture or something? Just a rumor I heard though.

Not to my knowledge, no. From what I understand the resonators are simply there to reduce noise.

Of course you will lose power removing the U-shaped resonator without capping it. You're basically running no intake tubing at all, and just sucking in hot engine bay air. You're also bypassing the filter and putting your engine at risk.

The resonator box in the fender does accumulate moisture over time but I'm not sure if it's supposed to by design. There was a small amount of water inside when I removed to install my AEM CAI.

Due to the design of our intake manifolds no performance should be lost by removing the intake resonators.

And you know this because? I ask because manufacturers go to great lengths to tune the intake resonance for optimal volumetric efficiency; if you remove the resonators, then you eliminate that performance boost.
