White discharge from A/C vents

Hi guys,

Lately I've been noticing my A/C is blowing out white-colored air from the vents.. It only happens once in a while for short periods, but I was wondering what that is since it's been occurring with increasing frequency. Thanks in advance.

Could just be cold condensed air...

I think that's normal, my Prelude does it. I used to think it was "extra cold" air!

Maybe...but have you checked where he's from?! I doubt "extra" cold air even exists in Texas!

Mine does it to. I'm also from Texas. I think the post about condensed air is correct.

All my Hondas do this. It is merely condensation when the hot and cold air meet when the A/C condensor cycles off and on and it is normally when the air is extremely hunid.

Its condensation from warm outside air passing over the evaporator coils. If you put the a/c on recirculating mode (cutting off outside air) the 'smoke' should decrease significantly.

Blex is right.... when the dry cold air meets the warm humid air, or when the internal ambient air reaches near the same temp as the air pumping out, it clouds... every human being in florida is used to this

I think this is only prevalent to us with automatic temperature regulating AC systems. Cars with a fixed or manual temperature setting don't get this smoke. When our cars change the mixure of outside air is when this happens. You can manually make this happen in cars that have the fix/manual setting by moving their slider and then this will cause the smoke to happen.....and yes of course conditions also have to be right...so it has to be humid.

Nope... your ride needs a recharge in refrigerant, it's not normal. Without the freon (or whatever the new name is... R34), you compressor will not get the necessary lubrication and eventually lock-up.

Thats correct the conditions have to be correct for this to happen.
I had this happen once that I notice since I had my TL. This was on a very warm summer day it had just stoped raining. I had not had not gone that far & notice the mist of smoke comming from A/C vents. I knew what it was but I had not seen it before in this car. I have not seen it again since then & that was 3yrs ago. I also use my A/C almost all the time in spring, summer season.

HUH? errrrr.... you are wrong on this one. The "discharge" as he calls it, is just water vapor from moist humid outside air condensing as it hits the evaporator. Its normal. No need to get him alarmed with compressors failing. Besides, there are high pressure and low pressure sensor switches on all ac systems that will keep the compressor from turning on if there is not enough refrigerant in the system -- this is true for all ac systems, both car, home and even refrigerators. R134a, R12, or R22.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I guess the conditions are just right for this... temperature in the high 90s with extremely high humidity. I've been thinking my system needs a recharge though... the car won't cool at all when the outside temp/humidity combo are both in the 90s.... I just attributed this to the borderline adequate Honda A/Cs though.

It should still cool.... it's been in the 90's here with really high humidity and my tl cools in 2-3 minutes and it gets ice cold within 5-7 minutes...

Hmm, maybe I should recharge it then. Can I get a kit that will work at AutoZone? Also, my car is blk/blk.. it should still cool though, right?

I keep saying the TLs A/C works great. Its low to mid 90s here in D.C. with high humidity today. It was hot here also yesterday My car is also BLACK/EBONY as well. My cars sits in direct hot sun all day like yesterday & today. If I don't cover it with car cover like when Iam not at home parked. The car still cools down very fast in about 2 to 3 mins from high temps like this. Tomorrow its going to be high 90s to 100 degrees with heat index of around 105. But a 99+ TL model should be cooling down quickly. I also have the coustom fit covercraft UV heat shield for the front windshield when parked . This will cut down on the interior temp of the car greatly. Its much better than the generic auto store kind that you can buy. My A/C was alrerady checked by dealer at my last service. They had that as part of a summer special with oil change, brake inspection, tire rotation balance, checks suspension & exhaust.

So do you think I should recharge my A/C? If the TL A/C is supposed to be *that* good.. then mine is definitely malfunctioning. It's works well up to about 90 degrees outside with high humidity.. after that forget it. i also have 27% tints all around.

Do you put yours down on the lowest temp setting of 60degrees? I never use that lowest setting because mine would freeze me out of there. If your not using a sunshield in the front windshield that could also make it hotter. But it sounds like something is wrong with your A/C.

Yes, I use a sunshield. I've tried it putting it to 60.. but it doesn't really blow very cold, so I just leave it at around 68 and hope for the best. Most of the time I've comfortable (never cold), but sometimes it's just too hot no matter what I do. I'll try a recharge kit from Auto Zone or pep boys.
