i just seafoamed my car again today. 1 can tank 1 can intake. it does shift smoother, but i think it might have to do with the engine running smoother.? i dunno but it does feel smoother

I do enjoy watching the conversion of people to Seafoam believers
Oh is it safe- did I do it wrong- should I do it more -I dont think it worked - it fd up my car
should I wait till summer, or excuse excuse excuse
2 days later:
Car runs amazingly better for an $8 can of stuff!!
Then a week later
Wow, I lost weight, wife treats me better, and now able to fortell winning lottery numbers- but still cant tell which state they are for DOH!

With clean injectors and valves, the engine sensors get accurate information and translate that to the computer.
Yes, your car runs smoother everywhere- its all related.
Just wait till you drop in the NGK Iridium spark plugs.

Hey I got some questions...
I've read this thread all the way through...
I just wanted to know how hard this was...looking at the pics it didn't seem to difficult, but I'm not really that good with engines yet (still learning) and I was just wondering how difficult this actually is...is it just unscrewing a knob and pouring the SF in, and than in the tank? or is it more...I didn't think there was any draining involved. My 02 TL-S has 87ish K so I'm sure its def. needed. Plus I do have a little bit of rough idling, and not the smoothest shifts in the world, althoguh the tranny's been replaced....

Its much simpler than it sounds.
Open gas tank cap and pour in 1/3 of can, replace gas cap
If you are going to change oil within 50 miles- add 1/3 can to oil thru cap- no draining required
Warm car up by driving- very important
Follow obvious soft vac line from back center of engine over to driver side fender- its the only one!
Gently twist to remove vac hose at the plastic piece where another hose leaves via the other little piece- you will see
Undo that hose from a few clips back towards the rear- so its longer to use- and put the can on the ATF fill plug
Engine running now- dip hose into can- remove- repeat several times, ok to use 2/3 of can if not using in oil right now- use thumb to push throttle to keep engine running.
Stop engine put hose back in clips and in place
Go wash the windows or something for 15 to 20 minutes then start car.
See prior post regarding time to drive and rpm- must heat up to clean all out- and will keep cleaning on that tank of gas
Repeat at next oil change and all set for 15 thousand more miles
see pages 7 and 8 for most recent sets of tips
HAve fun!

Ummm, sorry about the post above.
I was reading this thread and vacated my computer chair for a few min, and I think my daughter mashed on the keyboard to make a garbage post while I was gone.
I'd appreciate if mods would remove the post above (and this one too).

I did the seafoam over this weekend. I put 1/2 can in the intake valve and the other in the gas tank. Let it sit for 30 minutes and then go out for a run. There was white smoke for a good 10 secs and then it cleared up. I definitely feel the difference in shifts and the aceleration was a lot better too. The only thing happen was the check engine light blink for a few times and then it went away. Today, I drove to work and it feels even better. I am going to buy another can and put it in the crank case since I am due for a oil change soon.

I'm still probably a couple months from an oil change...I did one probably 300-500 miles or so...would it be worth it to Seafoam my car and chnage the oil anyway?
#211
Its not really necessary to use a full can in the oil. Certainly do not drive on that combo- if you run it in the driveway and change it right away- ok- it is a solvent and kills the lube property of oil.
Its only really required to do the oil change if you added to oil.
You can do a half can in tank and intake and be good, do whole thing again when ready for next oil change, there you are all set for some time

kudos to the guy that said the car shifts smoother, since we all made fun of him... and never believed him considering the seafoam has nothign to do wit hthe tranny.... but even i experienced smoother shifting so if ur there.. whoever u r.. reading this... SORRY DUDE.

DRINKING HAS A ME PROBLEM
its because the engine is running smoother
you can do a single drain and fill on the tranny fluid and it makes a big difference. only 15$ and a huge difference. takes only a few minutes i did mine without lifting the car at all. the drain is right in front.

I am a little confuse here, I read in previous posts that you can put the seafoam in the crank case and drive within 50 miles to get your oil change. But 01tl4tl is saying don't drive and change the oil right there at the spot. Please clarify!
#216
To clarify for TypeS
Using 1/3 of can in crankcase and driving 50 miles or to the oil change place is fine.
Using a WHOLE can in just the engine oil- I personally would run the engine without load- and change the oil after 10 minutes or so.

Just seafoamed my TL-S, too! Well actually, I just finished having dinner, but I just seafoamed the TL-S not 10 minutes before that!
Been thinking about it for a couple days, so I stoped by Pepboys on the way home tonight and grabbed two pints. I put about 1/3 to 1/2 the bottle throught the vacuum line, let it sit 15 min +/-. Then took her for a drive, blew smoke through the neighborhood... and since I was due for a fill-up, I put the other pint (whole bottle) in the gas tank and filled her up. I'm about ready for an oil change too, so when I get ready to go in the next day or two, I'll put the other 1/2 pint I have left in the crankcase and drive her the 10 miles or so to get it changed!
Might throw the leftover bottle of AutoRX I have into the engine with the new oil while I'm at it, and let her run for a few thousand... Ought to clean her up real nice.
Then it's off for more maintenance and modding!

anyone have a problem with stalling after they seafoam their 03 TL-S. That is the only thing i have done to my car and ever since i sometimes get a rough idle, stalling at stop lights and eratic rpms while driving but with my foot off the gas. the weird idle is pretty noticable at times while coasting - rpms bob up and down with as the car coasts or decelerates .
car has 50,500 miles
replaced plugs
replaced filter
no check engine light
i only post this here because its the oly thing that i can point to that may be causing the problem.

Sounds like a vac leak to me- has happened to seafoamers before- easy fix
The thing to look at is the vac hose used to put in the Seafoam.
Sometimes the end swells up and doesnt make goof tight fit on plastic nipple anymore, and may need a little trimming back and then all is well.
Others have the vac line come loose from the rear of the engine.
Simpy remove the plastic engine cover and look at the back - you will see
where its supposed to go.
Its just because we went in there and moved things around- no biggee
Should fix you right up
Enjoy

I just seafoamed my TL-S over the weekend. I followed he instruction from this post. Car runs fine fine but throw a P0420 code after I drove around after seafoaming. Any idea what could cause the P0420 code?

I know that this is not the car talk forum and neither the 3rd gen forums, but I have a few quesitons that you guys might be able to answer.
1. My friend has an 2001 Monte Carlo Pace Car Edition and has 150K miles on it. He gets regular oil changes and is running a coolant and catlytic CEL. Will the seafoam help to get rid of these two codes? Also is it recommended that he put it in with such high mileage? Will he need to change the spark plugs? BTW, this info has to be concrete soild because this car is IRREPLACEABLE This is the Pace car from the race when Dale Enrhart died.
I have a 3rd Gen TL with 27k on it and it is due for an oil change soon. Will seafoaming it render any effect on it?

seafoamed it again yesterday, doing an oil change tom, -35 degrees CELSIUS and the engine felt soooo smooth... i was waiting for a small jerk when the tranny was shifting since it was very very cold and it usually is not so smooth in that type of intense weather, however, i was SHOCKEd when i saw the odo and my car was already at 80km/h and i didn't even feel the tranny shifting or the engine revvvvvvvvvin... seafoam does wonders! .... this time, i bought 2 cans, 3/4 of 1 can into the gas, 1/4 (the rest) of that can into the oil place, another 1/4 of the other can into the oil place and finally the rest of the 3/4s of remaining amount into the PCV valve..... more smoke then last time... still not as much as some ppl here... but car feels great...
Still gotta replace my RACK AND PINION ... waitin on the part... also changing ball joints at the same time... *sigh* ..... that was my vacation money.. oh well...
fucken rack and pinion is 1500$ + labour from acura... i'm sure its cheaper elsewhere...

iwas wondering if anyone had any pics of where they put the sea foam in the vaccum line, i looked at the pics on the front page of the forum but i couldnt tell which one. could someone post up pics of where exactly is the vacuum line and how would u pour it in to the line?
thanks
thanks

You need to go see the pics again- its as obvious as can be when you look at the car
You SUCK the seafoam into the VACUUM Line using a dip and remove method of hose into can- otherwise car will stall.
Use finger to push throttle cable to make reves so engine keeps running
Everything you could want to know is in this thread
No need to repost pics that are already here!

yo i seafoamed the fuel tank a few days ago and it made minor improvements on the rough idle and smoothness. today i put a whole can in the vacuum line, lots and lots of smoke. soo soo soo much fun. it made great improvements. just got an oil change so ill do that on my next one. driving down to florida for spring break so should put on enough miles so that when i get bak i can do an oil change. but cant wait.
Thanks for the help everyone in this forum.
my friend wants to do it in his BMW after seeing wut it did to mine, does anyone here ( I know its a acura forum) know where i can find the vaccum line in a 2003 BMW 330i?
thanks

Good job!
Make sure when you Seafoam that the engine is at operating temp and after you put in the stuff, shut off the engine and let it soak in for 15-30 minutes, then a brisk freeway drive to heat it back up and burn off the now soft carbon deposits.
To find a vac line on any car just start at the back of the engine or brake booster and look

Well, I just sea-foamed two cars, my '01 CL-S with 99K miles and my girl's '00 Jetta with 102K miles. I'm in the "fermenting" stage now... Her car is the one I want to see start, I can't wait. She burns a quart of oil every 1000 miles!
BTW, thanks for all of the posts, especially optiq, thanks for the pics, it made it very easy.

All I can say is WOW. The CL-S blew a ton of smoke and now runs much better. I really didn't think it was running that bad before, but I could certainly tell a difference. Much smoother idle, more power and throttle response is instant.
The Jetta smoked out the entire street. It was literally like turning on a boost switch when I started the car. I wish I had video taped it when it started clearing out. Granted, this car burns LOTS of oil, so when it cleared, something in the EVAP system must of cleared. It runs like a top now. Unbelievable.
Then when I gave it some throttle it was like night and day.
If you haven't done this yet, DO IT NOW. This stuff works great.

Thats just the makers way to sell you extra stuff
What works well, assuming over 50k miles on car, is to do it twice about 2 or 3000 miles apart, and just before oil change. When you put some in the crankcase oil it breaks a bunch of ugly stuff loose and into the oil and the oil filter- thats why not to drive 500 miles after adding to oil.
You can do it 2 days apart if you want, just run some of the seafoam or Lucas Fuel cleaner in the gas tank to really do a week long flushing of injection
After that, about every 15k miles is when Acura now calls for it on new cars- a fuel system cleaning- so I would go with that unless you are forced to buy cheap dirty gas or experience other problems.
Enjoy!

seafoamed the 3G TL with 27.8K and nothing. Put in oil and gas and all i got was a smell of running rich from the exaust. I also tried the same on an old tarus with 173K milage and nothing. Do I need to do it through a vacum line for an effect and some smoke? Just on a side note, 1/4 can in oil and 3/4 in gas tank with half tank of gas.
#238
Yes, the way to make smoke and most effective is get it in the vac line direct to the engine.
Then its on the pistons and valves so you let it sit and dissolve gunk inside then the heat of running burns off the solvent and the carbon. Take on good freeway blast after to really clean it out. Most of the smoke is solvent but some is carbon
That rich smell is just solvent -will go away
The gas tank does a slow extra clean after tha initial blasting clean.
Dont drive too far after adding to oil, get it changed
Read the gen2 thread Seafoamed the ol TL for the best tips and info

OK time to add my
Just bought 2 cans today. 1 can for the engine, half can for the gas tank. WOW, does it ever smoke...I felt bad for a girl who just pulled up next to me just as I started to suck the fluid in.....bet I scared her!
Got on the road and floored it...took a while to clear up but when it did, it was certainly a relief. I believe it did help my 99TL a bit...responce is up a little...but overall its worth the 20 bucks CDN to clean out the ol engine.
