I have a 2003 Acura TL 3.2 automatic. My question is

1. Does it matter what replacement aftermarket brand power steering pump to replace the OEM with?

2. The power steering pump OEM model # is: 06561-P8E-505RM. Can this be purchased from autozone, oreilly, advance auto?

If possible, please include links or part # in your response. TIA

No you can't buy OEM parts from parts store

 

Assuming I need to replace my PSP. Does it make a difference as to what brand I use or where I purchase it from? Or should I use OEM and get it from the dealer?

 

I just went thru this exercise, going to replace my pump tomorrow actually. Purchased my replacement pump from local salvage yard for $25 on a vehicle that had 80K miles on it and has 90 day warranty. Seemed like all the local auto parts stores had was rebuilt units, and those were as much as $200. On Ebay you will see a large quantity of "new" power steering pumps for $50-$60 but assuming those are chinese knock offs, didn't want to go down that road. Thought about getting the kit to rebuilt mine, but after watching the one video of the guy taking his pump out over and over again, rebuilding it multiple times, swapping parts between two different pumps, never resolved the issue until he replaced with a new pump, said screw that. So check out local salvage yard. Only reason my pump is having issues is I made the stupid mistake of not adding Honda power steering fluid, lesson learned!!

 

My Story: I ordered a brand new one from Amazon but it couldn't get delivered due to it being damaged when it arrived at my local post office. I then went to junk yard, pulled a resovoir and cleaned it as thoroughly as I could with a combination of Purple Power Degreaser, Soaked it for 2hrs and gently tried to scrape any debri off the bottom filter using EXTREME CAUTION not to damage, or poke holes in it. Tomorrow I'm installing it and will let you know.

 

Why are you changing the reservoir? You said you scraped debris off the bottom filter? Not sure the PS system has a filter.

 

Sorry I used the wrong word. I got a PS Reservoir off a junked car and cleaned it. The PS Reservoir has a filter inside of it that cannot be reached easily so I had to be extremely careful attempting to clear the resovoir. Since I do not know the source of why my power steering is not as smooth and fluid as I think it should, out of abundance of caution I'm doing some maintenance on it.

1. Replace the power steering pump & hose that runs from it to the power steering reservoir
2. flush the power steering pump with new Honda authorize fluid
3. PRAY, PRAY & PRAY that it restores my power steering to a better condition.
Oh yeah previous work I've done is I've replaced the rack and pinion on the car about 1yr ago.

 

Follow up:

After cleaning the PS Reservoir I got from the junk yard, I decided to go with my original PS Reservoir because after removing and cleaning it, it look a tad bit better than the one I just cleaned. I removed and installed a new Power Steering Pump, a new PSP Hose and filled the PSP resovoir with Honda/acura fluid. At first the Power steering was a bit clunky but the more I drove & turned, the smoother it got. I'll return after a few more days to update this thread.
