Not sure if Water Pump or Power Steering Pump

So since it has been getting cold here in Missouri my car has started to make a noise coming from the front passenger side of the car. It is almost like the car is saying "BBRRRR" but once it warms up it goes away.

The sound is constant until the car heats up. The sound changes when I turn the steering wheel left or right and becomes noticeably louder like it is struggling. I have had no loss of handling when the sound is present and no issues with the car.

Any advice? I see the dealer in about 1500 miles so not sure if this is an issue that can wait or not. It did not do this when I purchased the car in the summer and the dealer did not find anything wrong back in September for its check-up.

Has the PS recall been done on your car? If not, get it done. It's free and it's a safety recall, applies to any car regardless of warranty or ownership. Several TLs have caught on fire without the recall fix.

If it has, it's possible they neglected to replace the O-ring like they were supposed to do.

You might need to replace the O-ring yourself and add a little PS fluid after it's replaced. It's also possible that you are just a little low on PS fluid.

Thanks guys. The PS Hose was replaced before I purchased the car according to the maintenance book and the dealer confirmed it as well last time I took it in. They probably didn't do the O-Ring though when it was replaced. I'll see if I can get a part and some PS Fluid and take care of it this weekend.

Mine did that the first winter I had it as well. Dealer notes say that I was just low on fluid (I wasn't), but the fix was replace o-ring and add fluid.

I have what sounds like the same issue with my 05 TL 6MT. Actually, I had the same issue in my 04 TL 6MT but that car got totaled before I had a chance to look into it.

It seems to happen most often to me when it's colder out, and I can hear the 'BRRRR' sound at idle and when I give it gas. It goes away after a few minutes of driving. It is not the same sound as the power steering whine caused by the O ring, though.

Unfortunately I don't have any further info on it right now, but you're not alone! Please update this thread if you find the issue. I'll do the same.

I have this sound, 2 sounds actually, I think the Loudest BRRRR is the drive belt (maybe the actually tensioner needs replacement) and the 2nd BRR, which I only hear when turning the wheel during cold weather 50C and below, i'm thinking is the P.S O-ring issue (I don't think, I've had the recalled checked out. I will now.) I'm going to have to them both check out tomorrow along with the heater control valve and the battery/ possible HFL issue.

Kill me now!!

I need that Hamilton Honda time belting/water bump replacement in my life too.
