H&R's finally installed!!!

I finally installed my H&R sport springs this past friday... damn! the look is phenomenal!!! :wow: its too bad i did not take any before/after measurements but from what i can see now, there's about 1/2" - 1" wheel gap in the front and the rear tire is tucked in about 1/4" (system in trunk) and I'm still on the stock tires. All this Thanx to TypeSDragon

Driving the car before and after (even took her into Manhattan tonight) the installation, here's my assessment:
  • the ride is a tad harsher, i would say anywhere from 15% - 25% harder but definitely still comfy
  • nose dive is nowhere to be seen or felt which I always dreaded
  • handling is improved but only slightly and steering feels a bit tighter
  • small bumps never felt before are now felt and larger bumps are a lot more noticable and tend to give a little bit of a THUD sound which was pretty disappointing
  • when coming out of a dip on the highway, that irritating bouncy floating feeling is now gone and the car stays planted to the road

Being that this is my first dropped car, I think I'm pretty happy with the results... even my mechanic was surprised as to how comfy it still was. He charged me $300 for the install, 4 wheel alignment, synthetic oil change and tranny oil change... good or bad? I'll post detailed pics when i get my friend's digicam

Sorry to hear about the "thud" sound, but it seems like you are satisfied overal. I love mine. I'm not sure about the cost of all the other stuff your mechanic did, but the instal on my springs alone was $100, and took less than an hour.

SimTypeS:
You get yours done at a chain...and if so which store?

Crav4Speed:
Very expensive...Acura charges less (70/hr * 4 hrs). I'm hoping to do it myself...or at least get it done for $150 or less...I'm putting the sports on too!

Nope, a little mod shop that's been in Portland for a long time. Altasports.net , I think. A few other guys on here have had work done there, too. Nice little place that is growing.

oh man!!! i was driving around again today and i am definitely satisfied with it. its a totally different driving experience... you feel so much closer to the ground. maybe they need to settle and loosen up first. Sim, how they did it in less than an hour i have no clue... took my guy 3 hours including the alignment... it even takes Acura 4... Austin, my mechanic charged me $300 for the install, alignment, tranny and oil changes not just the installation.

Charles, man... I found myself driving slower and swerving alot more than before but i handled the potholes pretty damn good... damn mofo potholes aint gonna make me ruin my kit!!!

Rosh, I stopped seeing you around... what happened to you??? I'm always around so drop me a PM and we'll meet up

I paid around 90 bucks for installation (not including alignment) from a motorsports shop. Extra 70 for alignment by Acura Dealership. Total cost = 160

300 bucks! :wow: (rape)

there are more places to drop a car in cali though...in fL too...its free enterprise and there is so much competition...anywhere else, I could see the money problem because these people dont do this work everyday...or they do and just decide to tax the hell out of the service because they maybe the only reputable name...Shyne

I'm thinking of getting H&R OE springs this June, because I want a very slightly firmer ride, but still maintain my clearance.

Any recommendation for a good install shop in Kansas City?

Hey Crav, congrats on your mod. I got one question for you. After you installed your springs, did you have to realign your headlights as well? Did you notice any changes in cornering?

Good to hear you enjoy your lowered TL. As for that THUD sound, you do get that when going over larger bumps. I had that same problem too. You may want to try spring isolators for the rear springs. It's sorta like an abestos like material that wraps around each coil of the spring. After I had mine installed,
the thud noise almost all went away. Still get them when going over very big bumps and driving fast. Hope this helps.

Will that work for the comptech's also or just H&R? Where did you get them.

Thanks guys I was just contemplating on whether or not to get them... wasn't too sure if i wanted to do it but now I'm glad I did.

I didnt really notice any difference with the headlights but then I havent driven on a dark highway yet so when I do I'll definitely let you know. As for handling, there's this pretty sharp curve on a highway close to my house with a 25mph posted limit, I could only take it at most around 60 but after I installed them, I took it at 70 with much less body roll but my stock tires started to squeal so I let off cause i did not want to risk spinning out... so the car is more stable, handling is improved slightly and the stock tires suck balls! hope that helps.

hey Patrick, thanx for the info! do they make them for the fronts as well or is it only for the rear? cause I hear the sound mostly from the front. how much did they cost you?

Lord Stanley: spring isolators work for all types of springs (Comptech, H&R, Eibach, Neuspeed, etc.). I got mine at a local mod shop. Check out your local mod shop, they should be able to order them in.

Crav4Speed: spring isolators can be used in front or rear springs. They can be had for about Cdn $30 for a pair (I think, not sure though) - so should be about less than US$20.
