Auto Type-S Shifter Questions
Hello everyone, I am working on a auto to manual conversion harness and module. I was hoping someone could answer some questions about the Type-S shifter. When you put the car in first gear does it stay in place or does it pop back to second when you let go. Can you redline in first or will it force you to up shift to second? Hopefully 6 speed swaps will be as easy as swapping in a trans and wiring up a module one day.

wham bam thank you ma'am

when u put it in 1st gear, go all the way to the bottom of the shifter, it will stay in 1st gear and wont go into second, if u put it in tiptronic, u go in 1st it will up shift to 2nd automatically but not the other gears, when your cruising in 3rd 4th or 5th and starts coming to a stop it will automatically down shift

Like Rajaca said. Putting it in 1st it will stay there. In the gate area all the way in 1st it will redline. In the SS mode it will automatically shift to 2nd. The rest of the gears in SS mode will bounce off the revlimiter without automatically shifting.

i'm sure this is irrelevant, but in SS mode, it will downshift if it senses too much load e.g: cruising in 4th gear (again SS mode) and i start going up a hill, it will shift me into 3rd even if i'm not tacking low.
but im pretty sure he means gate shifting.

Thanks for the info guys. Another quick question does shifting into first feel different then the other gears. I think the gear switch on the tranny only has 4 positions so one must not be linked. Rajca if this works you want to be a guinea pig

I never really felt a difference. Unfortunately i dont have the shifter laying around any more to look to see if its linked or if its electronic, but it did feel linked.

You have a spare type-s shifter? Basically as you move the shifter down a lever of something will move and pull the shift linkage. What I need to know is if the lever or linkage keeps moving past D2 or does it stop moving before D1.
