6000K Installation
My bulbs should be here on monday and i searched but i couldnt find any really thorough instructions, so could someone help me out this is my first real mod, and maybe we could kill 2 birds with one stone and put it in the FAQ, thanks alot.
Open the hood and you'll need take out the screw that is screwed in the cover. After you take the screw out, turn the cover CLOCKWISE, not counterclockwise. When the cover is off, you will see a black rubber plug. Turn it COUNTERCLOCKWISE to loosen it and pull it up slowly. Now you will see the bulb secured by a pin (hinge). Press and lift up the hinge and the bulb should pop right out. Shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes for each bulb.
I didn't need to aim the headlights after I upgrade my 6000k bulbs. They remain in the same position that the stock HIDs were.

Tools you'll need:
1 ratchet set.
1 torx T-20 bit (with hollowed out security hole)
some latex/vinyl gloves
flathead screwdriver
1. There is a plastic cover covering the driver's side. Use the flathead screwdriver to pop the plugs and then pull the cover off.
2. The windshield washer fluid tube is blocking the passenger's side. Use the ratchet to take out the screw and then pull the top part of the tube out. These 2 steps gives you room to work with.
3. Examine your working area. You will see a plastic cover with a lot of warnings of electrical shock protecting the bulbs. Look around the inner edge (towards the engine) of the cover and you will see a torx screw. Use the torx T-20 bit to unscrew the screws. Don't drop the screws, they're tiny.
4. Look on the outside of the cover and you will see an electrical plug. Unplug the plug.
5. Push the cover in and rotate clockwise to open the cover to expose the bulb.
6. Examine your work area. You will notice a metal clip held in by a screw on top of the bulb.
7. Press and lift up the clip.
8. Put on your gloves and pull the bulb out. Detach the stock bulbs and replace with the 6000K bulbs.
9. Plug the new bulb back into the socket and secure with the clip.
10. Put the protective cover back on.
11. Plug in the electrical plug.
12. Carefully screw the torx screw back in.
13. Do the other side.
14. Enjoy!
Sorry I don't have pics.

But Jake's getting D2S bulbs, so we gotta tell him about little mod.

If you look at the pic I attached of D2S( which is not a direct replacement), look at the slot circled on right side. On D2R's that slot is located on the left side, which I circled and arrowed. By creating the slot on left, it helps the bulb slide into the plug and snap in. I used a dremel tool and created a slot on the left side.
Once you take out your stock (D2R's) and compare them w/D2S's, you will see the slot I'm talking about.

ya i figured that out, but i got the passenger side in, and i removed the black things from the drivers side but i cant get the cover off for the life of me!! any suggestions, and i am turning clockwise.
You are at that point where you are turning to one side or another and you think if you turn to hard you will break it. That's the way I felt when I changed my Hi-Beams which took me a little longer than expected for that reason.
I wish you luck and you better get it done because I'm leaving this post in my favorites for future reference
Also when you people explain which way to turn (clockwise/counterclockwise) describe the angle that you are looking from.

well guys i did it!!!!! my first mod ive ever done to a car!!! im soooo happy these bulbs are unbelievable!! only bad part is that i dropped one of the torx screws but im gonna go to the hardware store and get another one

and here are some things i noticed, the stock D2R's did not have the second little notch that i dremeled in
and when taking the cover off if youre looking at it from your perspective the passenger side goes counter and the drivers side goes clockwise, just thought id share

Congratulations Jake. Those little bulbs are amazing. Pics simply don't do it justice. Although I think those sentences are getting repetitive now.
Anyways. Didn't I tell ya about the screws in step 3? Hehehe... I think they're totally unecessary. I still haven't put my one good one back in yet.
Anyways, I think my cover is a little odd then. There is an electrical plug on the side facing away from the engine for each cover. The over has these two plastic tabs protruding out of it on each side of the plug. I couldn't turn the cover because the plug was there. It's kinda hard to explain. I'll take a picture when I get a chance.

I would love to post pics but i dont have a digicam(or at least the one I have is sooooo bad). But next weekend im going to minneapolis to visit my sis and to have my tl get its first oil change and the sunroof rattle fixed so i take some then.
So i couldnt wait for nightfall last night, the lights were amazing and i swear everyone on the roads was looking at me.(dont have too many cars with lights like this around here)
But i do have one last question, i remeber reading something that hid bulbs need to burn in and then the true color comes out is this right?

Paul: I'll post some pics after I get my new 18's.
Jake: The burn in time is about 100 hours. So assuming you leave your lights on while you drive and you commute 1.5 hours a day on average, the true color should start showing after 2 months.

These instructions were great.. I wish I'd had them BEFORE I made the mod on my car.. I also took out the clip screw by accident! I should have some pics up to detail my other light as I make the switch.
