How would you convert a 3.2 to a 3.5?

a bit back I noticed your pictures show the hand brake sticking way way way up. Is that normal (in other words, do the Cl-S6's hand brakes raise so vertical)? It just seams odd to me. maybe it could be adjusted a bit?

oh to have the knowledge, time and money.... car is deputamadre.

Geez, you got that right! I can't even get the tranny out of my friend's car, even with the extra person to help out. lol I remember that you telling me that I could be able to use a jack to help raise and lower the transmission, but what kind of jack did you use? I've seen a few at sears, but I would think I'd need a jack where the top of the jack (the piece with the notches that makes contact with the car) has more of a larger surface area to better balance the tranny.

For a mod for $6k, I'd sure would do it if I had the time to, but since I'll be going away for school, I'll do this the next summer or upcoming vacation

Would this jack be good enough?

One more thing, explain the MDX Crankcase turning a 3.2 into a 3.5? I'm up for learning something new.

might as well if you aren't going to sell it or have extra money/time. if you went through with it then you would then have the only 2g 6-speed 3.5TL.

the 3.5L MDX engine has greater bore (how wide cylinder is) and stroke (distance piston goes up and down) so the MDX crankcase contains the larger crankshaft (which move the pistons). basically displacement is a formula which is something like bore x2 x stroke x # of cylinders. not sure exactly of the formula. someone else can go into better detail than me.

Okay, just to make sure I have the right idea of this concept, correct me if i'm wrong but if the MDX crankshaft allows the pistons to move at a greater length, basically the size of each cylinder would be increased... so you get more into the combustion chamber, more fuel/air ignited, more power. Am I right? With that being so, other than the crankshaft being changed, would the piston rods fit on the crankshaft nicely and more so, would the ECU have to be replaced with another to accomodate the new mod or can it just be reset and be adjusted from there? Other than that, what other major changes would have to be made?

there are some that have done teh 3.5 conversion in the past and in the CL conversion, and the extra displacement comes from the stroke which is in part with the crank and rods and pistons. All of which i would use new to achieve that

cool...

well I currently have some

mdx pistons/cl-s pistons/cl-s rods at my engine builder if you want them. I'm not going to need them for my new motor. Let me know.

well you can have the cl-s pistons if you want them man, I don't need them if you decide to do it. They would give you the highest compression ratio. Just let me know.

Was it a TL-S or a CL-S engine? if CL was it the 6-speed version? i know they are both J32A2 but are there any differences?

Humm, i may have to take you up on that. the more i think about it the more i like the idea of a 3.5 build..

you need to read the thread better.
The motor was from a CL-S auto. And as i discovered there were some differences in sensors. some expensive sensors. (about 1000$$ in parts differences)

You dont. The car doesnt look any different from the outside. I just take pictures of the inside now!

fsttyms,

Did you buy any 'Type-S' badges yet? ... technically, it would apply for most of your car.

Why stop at half-way? Maybe you can find a Canadian 'A-spec' interior ... ... I knew a guy who was gonna write-off his car and I thought about the A-spec interior ... only for a moment.

Wait ... your exterior is the dark green, right? Nevermind ... that blue / black 2-tone would look hideous.

If you decide to do it, do it now and finish with the distinction of being the first unofficial 3.5TL Type-S 6-speed before the arrival of the 07 TL-S.

have you thought about just doing a vanity plate like "TLS6SPD" instead of the badging?

Anyway congrats man. That is definitely the best mod of all time for a 2g TL.

I am, but i just took off my snow tires today, so spinning should be less a issue now. There was no reason before to remove the snows.
