Best Ipod adaptor for 05 RL

I saw some older threads on this subject, but I was wondering what's the best method/kit at the moment to hook up my ipod or HTC EVO into my 2005 RL to play music?

Probably the USA-Spec kit. There is a DIY in this section. I-042 I think.

Sweet Thx!

BTW how's that V1 working for you? I wanna get one hardwired into the car. Where did they run the wires for yours?

The V1 is amazing simply b/c it tells you where to find the 5-0. Passport has a unit with better range, but no other unit will give you a direction. My V1 has easily paid for itself, and probably saved me from being arrested (I got an itch to go 100+ for a little while and he was sitting over the next hill ).

As for the wiring, I did it my self. It is mounted to the left of my rearview mirror and the wire runs through the ceiling trim and A-column trim on the driver's side. Since it is simply a telephone wire, it was thin enough to slip into the trim without removal.

I got the unit in 2004 or 2005 on eBay for $285 shipped; it was used. Valentine will upgrade the firmware to their latest version if you send it in.

The only down side is LADAR. No radar uniti that I know of will jam a laser gun that is up to date. To do that, you need the Blinder like 037 has. Once my V1 tells me there is laser, I'm already hit and screwed if I'm speeding.

Hi guys, is there any way to operate the ipod from the cabin? Either handheld or possible integration with nav display?

I use Mediabridge.... it displays the text on screen and allow u to either control your ipod via steering wheel buttons or the ipod itself.... plus you'll have the option of bluetooth streaming, AUX, or USB

here is my setup:

Awesome! Is the setup and functionality pretty user friendly? Where can you purchase this?

it's pretty easy.... the unit itself is small enough to be concealed underneath the "not an ashtray"... plug directly into the XM port in the back of oem head unit... I got USA-spec at first but found out about this and returned the USA-spec and got me a Mediabridge...

I use the BT streaming alot and USB for the Ipod.... hardly use the AUX anymore (but it's there if u need it).... all the music info display on screen (it doesn't display chinese or any foreign characters) ... you have the option to either control the ipod via HU/steering wheel button or the ipod itself.... the bluetooth co-exist with the handsfree in our car....

you can get this unit on the internet, just look for a good deal.... and the version with bluetooth

I setup my connectors like the 09+ RLs (inside the center console box... just get the oem parts from the dealer, they don't cost that much but it'll make ur setup look factory finished)

The USA-spec unit will do this as well.

If your phone have Bluetooth and A2DP capable (most new phones are)... than you pair the phone via handsfree and pair the music via the mediabridge... whatever music you are playing on the phone's media player will get stream to the car's audio via bluetooth... when the phone call comes in, it'll switch over to the handsfree... just like the 09+ RL... the draw back with mediabrige is that you'll have to connect the mediabridge again after a call

Called USA Spec to find out what effect the new iPhone 5's "Lightning" connector will have on the usability of USA Spec's adapter for our RL's.

Their support guy was commendably honest. The short answer: They don't know, and they won't know until they can get their hands on an iPhone 5 and test it. He guessed that time frame might be roughly measured in weeks.

Obviously, until then, it's unwise to buy the USA Spec adapter since it's engineered for the now-extinct 30-pin connector.

Heavy, with all due respect (which is a lot) for your history of solving RL problems in threads like "Heavy vs. the Arm Rest," it may not be quite that simple.

The new connector is not only smaller, it has fewer pins. It's already being reported that iPods will not work in some BMWs and other German luxury cars just through the addition of this adapter. It's not a one-to-one changeover.

Hello, fellow Acura owners. (My first post here.. :-) Just bought an '06 RL)

I was researching the reason why my included jack would read from iPad 3, but not an iPhone 5 with a 30pin-5pin converter. Maybe some of you are having the same question..

Most likely because I'm using a cheap $8 converter from eBay! It does not include DAC in the conversion.
Apple left out the analog audio out of the lightning connector. It's all digital. And it looks like you have to make sure you have their official name-brand converter to use lightning port iDevices with our car iPod cables!

Read details about DAC and why the converter is so expensive here:
http://www.macworld.com/article/1168...s_for_you.html

Anyways, I'm planning to go buy the official converter at an Apple store and check to see if that works.

And, to follow up with the last message - indeed, the official Apple adapter does the job!

But the ebay adapter fit much better with my current iphone case (it has a little wedge/relief sticking to fit with a case on the phone), so I have to find a new case now..
The official adapter needs more space at the base of the connector on the phone.
Here are two adapters to consider:
Regular...
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD...30-pin-adapter

With a 20cm cable...
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD...n-adapter-02-m

The cable one has a lightning connector also thicker than the original lightning cable - go figure!
So, anyone with this issue may find that they need to look for a new case with one of those adapters.
