Headlight flicker at bumps/dips

Every once in a blue moon, when i hit a bump at moderate speeds, the headlights would flicker off and on really quick. i'd say about 1/4th of a second fast. not just one side either, both of them go off then on really quick. but this only happens like once a month or maybe a bit more than that. Is this something I should get looked at while I still have warranty?

Good question. Happened to me recently when I missed avoiding some of the huge potholes that have formed this spring...These are jars that make me want to check the alignment. Last time I recall it happening was only the left side when I crashed through a pot hole on the left side. Left light flickered off and and on...Right light stayed on. I was guessing it was the jar was so great it disrupted the plasma field.

Welcome to the club. I've had mine for 2 and a half years and it has been flickering on and off since i got it but i can never duplicate the problem to the techs at the dealer. Now that i'm out of warranty i know if there is a major issue i will have to handle it out of pocket. If i were you guys i'd have them take a serious look at the problem. I've had my lights flicker off completely. Mainly the right light but sometimes the left one. Then i have to turn the lights off and back on for them to come back on. I've had the right one flicker off and on consistantly every couple seconds for like 3 or 4 days straight then i'd have like a 2 week gap where it wont cut off at all.

Your symptoms sound like flickering that is not in response to a sharp jolt. You have to search around the site. There were issues that dealt with bulb failure to faulty ignitors. I think there was even a ServiceNews about it.

Same here. BUT, I notice it only started after Ferman Acura in Tampa (it's my life's mission to inform everyone to AVOID THIS STEALERSHIP AT ALL COSTS) took apart my headlights because my left one wouldn't swivel, even in turns and at speed. Surprisingly they were able to pull their heads out of eachother's asses and fix it.
Intuition dictates that the fact that it only happens when the car is jarred and in my case, that whole area's been tinkered with, it's probably just a loose connection somewhere. Once I have a some time to myself after the semester's over, I'll break down the front end and make sure everything's tight and snug.

I thought only the right light is the one that swivels from what i have read on this forum. or is it the only one that moves when turning the car on with them on?

Both headlights are capable and active. You are correct that only the pax side swivels in the test mode upon ignition.

The driver side only swivels when speed sensors indicate the RL is traveling over 5mph when turning. This is to avoid blinding drivers to the left when the RL is stationary and the wheel is turned or just starting to make a left turn from a stop.

Tampa always has the right answers.

I believe that this right side test mode swivel and the left side anti blinding mode is also discussed in the Owners Manual DVD and the Owners Manual paper book.

Both Tampa and Chas2 are usually correct.

Had the same problem on the drivers side with my RL for over a year. The light would flicker. Eventually it started flicker more often then it would go out while driving. I would turn the lights off and on real quick and it would come back on. At first it was months apart, then weekly. I replaced the bulb about 10 months ago and haven't had any issues.

I recently acquired 2010 RL from Acura dealer and of course we mainly test drove the car during the day. During the test drive, we drove up to a glass wall of a restaurant and turned on the lights, both worked. A day after purchasing, I drove in the evening and haven't noticed lights flicker.
Today thought, I put the switch to an auto and started the car. Noticed subtle flicker and then few more when I was backup out of my parking spot. Drove to my relative's house and stayed there for almost an hour. After that started the car and noticed both lights flicker few times and then another couple more time within a minute. Dealer told me that car includes 30 day warranty from them. By reading this thread, I see people mention that it could be the bulbs.

It's mainly the bulbs. Chances are they are aftermarket. I've only had a flicker once i put aftermarket. Originals never flickered, and became reddish when dying out.

If not bulbs are at fault and car has original bulbs, could anything else in the car make lights flicker?

I will have to get history of the vehicle(not carfax) from Acura dealership I bought it from. While I was there during negotiation process sales guy showed me that history starting from 2010. I was interested seeing major item replacement listed and didn't pay attention to smaller such as light bulbs. I will check this evening and see how headlights perform and contact the dealer since they gave me 30 day warranty. Hope it includes everything and not just powertrain.

Hope it won't get to that on a "new to me" car. Does RL have Bi-xenon headlights? So the low and high beam in one bulb?

Yea, say that at night it's not drive-able. and one headlight goes off after blinking, and you have to turn it off then on, to have it back, then it flickers forever, then turn off...

That's what happened to me a year after replacing the original dealer bulb with aftermarket, and then, got a replacement aftermarket one (bulb was still under warranty) and flickering stopped. a year later, it started again
