The Tein Luxury sport springs have the exact same drop. Better make sure they're not made by the Betts spring co. though.

Are there any springs that replacing the OEM shocks wouldnt be mandatory, and that will provide a conservative drop?

I have those springs, they are a more aggressive drop than the CT springs.

Like I said earlier .. looks like comptech updated the drop inches on their site, but not the price. nor the warranty. I guess from eibach to comptech the springs lose about eight years of a warranty and add about 80 dollars to the price? Interesting.

My dealership would have (Tischer Acura) but any warranty claims having to do with the springs would be dealt with directly by H&R. Installing H&R Springs will not void your factory warranty.

Yes I have aftermarket shocks. I chose the Tokico HP.

The next best choice is H&R 50103. Very comparable to Comptech drop (forget about what they SAY the drop is, I'm talking about reality)

First let me say...

My condolences to all of you guys who had to go through such hardship with these springs...

But second let me say thank you for sharing these experiences with us, so that we may be better-informed consumers...

Thank you again...

Salut

After reading this thread I'm really pissed! I went with Comptech springs thinking I was getting the best, based on their reputation for quality...boy was I wrong!

I took a quick pick in the garage, the fronts are starting to rust and the rears look like total shit. Sorry for the crappy pic, kind of tough with the wheels on. This is the passenger side rear, the left rear is a bit better. Springs were bought direct from Comptech and installed by PAA about 3 years ago.

I’m going to DE-STICKY this thread in a couple of days.
Feel free to post any updates or future problems here.
After nearly 10,000 views I think everyone who visits regularly should know about this issue by now.

I hope everyone is able to work out an agreeable credit or replacement if they have rusted Comptech Springs.

After having emailed Comptech directly and explaining my spring situation ( bought and installed May '03, thus still in warranty) and clearly detailing the advanced rusting/corrosion of the rear springs, I received an email from Nate on Wednesday (10/6). I will not repro. the entire response here but simply say that I am still in shock as to the content. After knowing about this serious issue with the springs for more than 3 months now, the Comptech Company writes to me: "....We normally don't warranty surface rust on a product, but are making an exception for this particular part.

Did you all get that ??? Surface Rust?? We will make an exception ??

Needless to say I am waiting at this point for the matter to be resolved.

Thanks to everyone especially Jonesi who started this rolling.

Meanwhile please everyone say a little prayer that the springs don't fail on me as I'm driving.

Peace.

Thanks everyone.
I was out of warranty by a few months.
Comptech covered the cost of uninstalling my rusted springs and installing Tein SS coilovers.
This was done at Park Avenue Acura in New Jersey who installed them originally.
Comptech covered all labor and I negotiated for 200-dollars credit for the springs because I didn’t want to put the new Comptech’s back in the car.

Shawn thanks for your reply.

This is the response I received from Comptech today:

Mr. Marino,

As I stated in my previous email Comptech is willing to return your springs and issue a new set. I understand your and other's concerns regarding the springs and would like to restate that the presence of surface does not indicate a spring will fail. I have not seen any pictures of your springs yet and would like to do so. I will happily send you out a replacement set but you would have to incur the installation and alignment costs. If you could please send me a copy of your original purchase invoice as well as pictures of your springs I will get this going as soon as possible. Thank you.

Nate Haines

Nate is the guy I dealt with at Comptech.
Not the easiest to get a hold of at times and not the best at returning calls, but we worked it out in the end.
I don’t understand their change in stance on this issue.
Maybe they got tired of paying the big repair bills.
Or maybe some of the springs they’re getting back aren’t really that bad.

Unfortunately, I just checked their warranty on the website and it DOES say that labor isn’t covered.
I don’t know if this was always the case or if they just changed this.

http://www.comptechusa.com/warranty.html

This warranty applies only to products made by Comptech USA, and does not include claims for labor or inconvenience. This warranty does not cover consequential damages claimed as a result of the failure or use of a Comptech product.

I see they added something about consequential damages too. I guess this means they don't want to pay for a whole car when one of these breaks and gets stuck in a tire. I'll have to look and see if it matches the warranty I got with the springs originaly.

lol a company that was once held so high on this board and was always bragged as the RIGHT way to do things and the quality parts to buy now aren't so quality and they don't seem to want to stand behind their product .. and now shadily changing their warranty policy.

Update : background notes: I was still "under warranty" and had them purchased and installed at Authorized Acura Dealership (PAA). After sending them my receipts and pictures, they said a frim "no" to any installation/alignment costs. Final decision from Comptech .

I still can't believe it. After all they know about this situation with these springs, and all the eveidence they have seen over the last few months.

Bottom line - I will never again purchase or recommend any Comptech product. The right thing to do here would be to cover any costs incurred by the consumer to correct the situation.

Once again thanks to everyone on the board ; I would have never had know about the serious spring issue if it weren't for the great Acura CL community.

If someone can post up a copy of the "original warranty" wording for the springs it would be great, since the issue of Compyech changing it is something I still want to check out.

Yes...but the important issue at hand is who has a copy of that "original" warranty, since someone here feels that the one that is now posted on their website seems to be quite recent.

http://www.comptechusa.com/warranty.html

Anyone have a copy of a warranty that is different than this one ????

That's true, Mr. Snake, however, I only ran it in the snow once and not where salt was used on the road surface. Thanks for bringing this thread back to life....I was just starting to get over the royal screwing by Comptech some of got.

I believe mine definetely corroded and one of the springs just completely broke! I'll try to post pics sometime. They were from my 02 TL-S. I'm in the Chicago area.

No. The rust will eventually destory the springs entirely

Yep the rust will eventually spread. I wouldn't put rusted springs (no matter how minimal) on my car.
