another option would be this
i can vouch that it works because it was installed on my old 95 maxima, it was in there already when i bought it. someone attempted to steal the car but only left with my cd's and some change(literally)
the only bad thing about it is that it looks horrible in any interior (it works in auto's too)

its bolted down with a bracket, i never took my center console apart in my maxima to see exactly where it went. this really takes some custom work to get done

If you really afraid it going to get stolen install a switch that whenever you start your car you need to push it to start or else it wont start. Hide it in some 'hidden' location out of the ordinary to prevent the theft. This is somewhere better than installing the ugly auto lock above.

^It's good. I still have to do the final hookup under the hood. I have no manual, so i'm a little lost in the wiring. I'd rather not take it to a shop to finish up. Best thing is you can put it anywhere. I did a clean mount under the dash lighting dimmer.

I thought of that today when i was driving. It would be perfect. All you have to do is secure the unit inside the car somewhere, run the wires through the firewall and splice into 2 lines. It comes all wired up.

See if you could buy the car back from the insurance! Part out the car and sell everything! You'd probably make a lot more money then what the insurance will sell it back to you for

Cancelled my LoJack and went with the OnStar service. They can send a signal to disable the car once stolen. I don't know why I didn't think about it at first since I have navi and OnStar came with the 03 CL-S with Navi. Much less expensive. Just a thought for those of you with factory Navi.

OnStar isn't the same. If the car cannot "see" the satellite OnStar won't work so if the car is in a garage you'd SOL. It might have changed but I doubt it. And the CLs w/Navi are analog and don't work with the new digital version.

OnStar - Will not work in our cars starting in 2008
I just received an email from OnStar with their new terms and conditions. One thing I discovered is that they will stop serving analog only hardware in early 2008. I emailed their customer service and they responded that our cars have analog only hardware. This means that unless an upgrade to a digital system is done, we can no longer use OnStar services.
I am still waiting to find out what is involved in doing that upgrade.
Just wanted to get the info out.
Sorry.

Heh, I was gonna say part it out and let me get the trans so I can get a 6 speed manual swap with my car...
...but then I remembered you said the thieves were pretty harsh on it when it was recovered the first time. I can't imagine how out of shape that manual would be now

I'm sure the transmission is fine... after all it's not like it's an automatic! I think the car will sell for $5,500.00 at the auction and wind up at some pot lot for $9,995.00 or something.
I hope it finds a good home but what's interesting is it seems as though this car wasn't stolen for parts just for joyriding around and using it to keep all their info for their other stolen rides. I don't know in what condition it's in now but the police said I could drive it home if I still owned it.
It'll be interesting to see which auction it goes to and how much it sold for. Sad to have lost it but I'm over it now.
I got put thru the ringer more because they raided my bank account and created some problems like that as well as getting the car back and having to deal with the realization of owning a theft recovry vehicle then having it stolen again!
What I'm most upset about now is I lost my perscription sunglasses, custom license plate frame, and my Mercedes-Benz S Class umbrella... they stopped making those after all and were really nice!

I'm pretty sure that's not 100% correct b/c it needs GPS to know where it is... cut the line of sight to the satellite or remove the antenna and you're dead in the water:
At its most basic, OnStar consists of four different types of technology: cellular, voice recognition, GPS and vehicle telemetry. All of the services that OnStar provides are a result of one or more of these technologies working together.
http://auto.howstuffworks.com/onstar2.htm
And:
OnStar is based on GPS, so it knows where it is - all it has to do is be able to transmit the Lon/Lat. But, like Bob says, cut the antenna and you're done. It also won't work if it's in a garage since it can't see the GPS sats.
LoJack is basically an FM transmitter that's used as a homing beacon. The 4 antennas you see on the roof of a tracking vehicle are there to setup triangulation on the signal. Being FM, the antenna in a LoJack system doesn't have to be exposed, thus adding to the covert install. A thief rarely knows that it's there, much less _where_ it is. In fact even the _owner_ doesn't know where the system is - this is to "protect" them in case of a car jacking.

Mercedes-Benz TeleAid has the same limitations as OnStar.

I'm gonna have to look a bit more into that Ravelco thing. Think my insurance rates will go down a bit if I tell them I have that hooked up in my car?
