Ah thank you! I guess that's a simple fix. No, I do not know what was done to the car while it was away but I have it back and there's not much I can do about it except pay my deductable and deal with it.

With all that money he spent on it he should have installed Lojack. Sucks but I didn't put much money into my ride and now I have a car that was likely mechanically abused. Maybe not but I'll never know.

Damn, I'd say luck's on your side but now I don't know.... Well, at least you got the car back.
That whole story is just bizarre as hell. 1.5k miles in 3 weeks, plus the shape the car was left in, all the credit card info stashed inside, etc. I take it the car was deserted, right? Wonder why they would ditch the car with all that info stashed in there...

Damn man. Im happy you got your car back, but if I were in your position I may not want to keep it.
Its like if your girl got gang banged at a fraternity, would you want her back?

Glad you got your car back but yeah I don't know how I'd feel if I got mine back like that. Sadly since no one really dies from car theft, (just severe emotional trauma) the police have other things with more priority. With the way CA is in a hole right now like the OP said, SFPD probably ain't going to do much.
me too just in case.
ok ok
info on how they got yoru car working.
its all over the internet that bypassing the ECU is as easy as opening up the box and removing the upper chip thats installed as the immobolizer.
once that is removed, the car will start.
ive also heard of theives stealing vins and getting keys made at the dealer. but since they cracked ur ecu that means they made a copy of your key at sometime and u didnt notice it.
there is software that cuts keys with a picture now.
i wouldve given the pipe to the cops, lots of saliva on there and it brings the GTA charge up to a possession charge. cops love that
glad u got it back, the insurance should give u new tires, new ecu, and if u push new locks and keys.
for other people reading this board, i cover my vin by sliding a notecard over it between the windshield and my dash for this very purpose.

alot of the times car thefts happen up in seattle its always a few cities away that the cars are recovered in. my sister had her integra stolen and it was found over 50 miles away in a ditch. might explain the 1500 miles on the tach. have you considered that maybe the persons responsible are on this board? you posted that you recovered the vehicle and it gets stolen again not to long after. also cl tl and accord manuals were found in the car? just a thought.

They had my Reg and my keys and their stuff was in the trunk so natural they come back for it. Maybe the guy puffing the crack pipe I found in my car is on this board.

u should have taken out the ecu and then locked the car. that way the cant drive it, even if they put in another ecu in. thats what im gonna do to my car when winter come. ecu out. batt disconnected and just to make sure pull the clock back up fuse. then lock the car and put a car cover on it.

Here is my guess:
The original theives had your info (address, etc from the Reg). They also (presumably) had a key.
They sold that info to some other thief and that's the one that took your car the 2nd time.
No way they'd expect to get back their false papers and stuff. Not after the cops found the car the first time.

Yeah considering every shred of info you've given us, I'd say something a bit major is going on. Like a whole conglomeration of thieves or something is involved. Considering all that has happened, I think the police would be stupid not to make this a priority.

I have now filed TWO police reports (3 if you count the stuff I found in my car). I do not believe they thought they would lose my car the first time, hence why their stuff was still in it. The cops are not allowed to chase a stolen car so they don't even bother to do anything. If the parking enforcement finds it or it has expired tags, etc... then maybe it will be found. The cops have too much crime, not enough budget, and this is a low priority for them. The evidence I turned in links them to at least 8 other car thefts. Whether the cops go after them or not who knows.
I have a second car which I can use. I will be getting Lojack installed in that very soon. Needless to say I really don't want the car back now because I'm sure these fuckers are pissed and will probably grind the CL into nothing out of anger.
I was going to move it out of the City tonight (I was working too late the past two days). Anyway that's the deal.
Get Lojack on your cars is all I can say because these cars, once a key has been made, can be stolen very fast! Had Acura decided to weld the immobilizer onto the ECU this wouldn't have happened because the ECU would have been destroyed. But they saved some cash and made it a piggyback card.
Your OEM anti-theft system isn't worth shit. Take it from someone who knows.
