Motor Oil

i have never heard of 5-20w motor oil until I
bought this car.

Anyone make a 5-20w besides Honda?

I want to run synthetic by 10k so would
a 5-30w work OK down here in Houston TX. ?

Rarely gets very vold down here!

I dunno what the best weight would be for the Cl engine. 5w-30 is fine for temperature. I would call your dealer and ask whether it is an appropriate weight. Different cars require different oils.

I use Mobile1 5-30W. The 5-20 is honda thing so they can get you to take the car to the dealer to make money off your oil change.

agreed...my old service place (Rallye Acura) used Quaker State, and i was a bit concerned (not a Quaker State kinda guy, more like Mobil I)...so now i buy the Mobil I Tri-synthetic 5W-30 (5 quarts each service) and ask them nicely to use that instead of their oil...i think every Acura service uses various oils...my Infiniti service guy uses Agip, which i really dunno if it's good or not, but it's an 8 year old car that my folks use.

I'm using Mobile 1 and changing it every 10,000 miles. They say you should change the drainplug washer, which I skipped the last time (forgot to get one at dealer). Not difficult at all. Oh yeah, 5-30.. YMMV

Changing oil

I change oil in my driveway and use Mobil 1 5w-30 and Purolator PureOne oil filter. Easy to do and takes less time than taking it to my dealer.

10W-30 is good to any winter or summer temps you will EVER see in Houston.... (-40C to + 50C as I recall)

FWIW, the lower the spread between low and hi viscosity, the fewer polymerized molecules are required, leading to fewer deposits....

Best,

Jim

Me too but I just stick with the stock filter.

i can't find anything about "drainplug washer". What about those ppl use other oil filters, do u change "drainplug washer"? Is it only a honda thing or every car has this drainplug washer need to change?

Any synthetic 5-30 oil will do & will probably be better than 5-20. BTW: you'll see fewer breakdown products with synthetic so I wouldn't worry about deposits. If you're looking for an affordable synthetic oil change I recommend WalMart. They'll do a full synthetic change for ~ $30.

PS: In Texas 10-30 should be okay.

The washer you are referring to is called a crush washer. Unless you tighten the drainplug like a madman you can keep re-using it indefinetly. I believe honda does the 5w-20 to get better emmisions certifications (LEV, ULEV).

Use 10W-30 in the summer when its hot.
Use 5W-30 in the winter when its cold.

If it gets -40 below F. your car is not gonna start with 10W-30.... The oil will be a solid block in the oil pan!!!!
