Rev Limiter Disappeared??? Help!

Alright, you know the CLS has a rev limiter so that when your in neutral, you cant rev it passed ~4500rpm's.......well mine suddenly disappeared. I mean i can rev it to redline in neutral and in park.

Any ideas what this could be>>?

take it on the road and drive to see if it is still there. that may be your best option. dunno if there is something when you are parked. unless u have this strange obsession with sitting in your cl and revving the f out it

The rev limiter is not a fixed device; it is software code in the ECU. If the ECU is not limiting the revs when required something is not being read correctly. This would lead me to believe that there are other problems not being realized.

Check to see if there are any codes and see if this occurs after resetting the ECU; maybe it just needs a "re-boot".

After that take it to a dealer. If that is not an option, follow killer's advice.

Maybe your tranny is toast. Slipping & allowing you to rev freely.

And remind the class, please, why you would want or need to rev past 5500 RPM in neutral or park?

Why are you revving up to 4500-5500 rpm in neutral - in an auto no less.

This could be a good thing!!!! MAYBE if he has no rev-limiter, than MAYBE he could go faster than 130 in 4th gear!!! And faster than 147 in 5th!! Try it!

Your top speed may no longer be regulated.

Maybe he wanted to warm up his car faster.

I don't know how cold it gets in NorCal however.

or maybe he just simply wanted to rev the motor up. Either way it doesn't matter. What does matter is his limiter doesn't work. Put the car in first and see if you can bounce off of it while driving.

speaking of rev limiters,I think allmotor posted that the ecu
stores an occurence when you hit the rev limiter.Does removing
power (re-boot) erase this or do you have to use a scanner to
clear it. Last time the car was at acura they asked if I race it. wtf
I do bounce it off the limiter from time to time. just to make sure
it works of course.

Yes, an over rev condition would be stored until the code is reset or power is removed for a few seconds. However, bouncing off of the rev limiter would not trigger a code unless excessive.

The over revving which would be recorded could really only be done in a manual where you accidentally downshift.
