How to check for tire leaks?

OK... I'm not sure if it's the warm and then cold weather... A poor seal, or a hole, but my wife just called and said the "Low Tire Pressure" light came on in her car.

Is there an easy way to check for a leak? It's not like this is happening frequently; i.e. weekly, but the light came on about 3-4 weeks ago. I'm not thinking it's a leak, but how can I be sure?

Sounds like you've got a slow leak.. The tire places usually put the tire in a water bath and look for bubbles. You might want to try brushing soapy water on the tire and look for bubbles. Otherwise I'd take it to a shop. Could be a valve, bead, etc. It won't hurt to have it reseated either.

A local tire shop will do it for 18 bucks... Probably throw some air in there and get the car over there this weekend.

Then again... I don't even know if the tire is low. For all I know, the tire pressure monitor could be outta whack.

Also, if your wife drive the car and partially parks on the curb that could cause a tire to gradually lose pressure.

Just my

only bad thing about those monitors is that they may not always be acurate and its one more thing that can break

It certainly did it's job, considering the rear tires were severely low. But it strikes me as odd as both were exactly the same, 18psi.

I'll definitely keep an eye on them.

You can also try to spray some windex on it or something like that. When it hits a leak it will start to foam up so you can see it easy.
