Fan ?

I never noticed this until I started to go to the dyno and the operator keeps telling me about how hot my engine is. I've noticed this on hot days and with some spirited driving, when I get home I leave the engine running and pop my hood. Theres a blast of heat coming from the engine compartment but the fans are not running. You would think they would be on. Wonder if they are broken, or do they have a safety and turn off when the hoods open? As a matter of fact I don't think I have ever seen them on since I've owned the car. This has also sparked my attention because I was planning on doing the cooling mod soon.

Turn your A/C on (manually), and get out and listen. The fans should come on. If they don't run, you got a problemo.

you know there is a Temp gauge right on your dash...

Mind telling me if it is at the half way point after the car has been started and running for 5-10 minutes?

No smitty. After start up and driving for awhile, The gauge usually sits at 1 to 2 ticks under half.

So does that mean that the fans only turn on if the gauge goes to half or higher?

Not necessarily. You can start your car cold and run into traffic and your fans will turn on prematurely b/c there is no moving air into your car. It can all depend on weather conditions, traffic, etc.

Louie trust me on this one.... if your gauge is sitting at 2 clciks below half way and it never goes up above that, then your fans are working properly...

The first 10 minutes of that car sitting there and running would make that dumbie needle on your dash SKY rocket to the RED (overheat area) if your FANS were NOT working.

your fine... enjoy your Acura..

Louie... what Smitty said... ... and furthermore... keep always in mind that internal combustion engine is very inefficient design... and in 100 years of solid although operaion.. noone had improved upon the miserly 87% inefficiency... i.e. 87% of heat that you felt when opening the hood... is a pure WASTE... but trust the all aluminum knocker... it does NOT need as much cooling as the solid iron blocks.... .
