Looks like a y-gate to bypass the cat. That means you need two exhaust systems. Hmmm is there enough room under there for two? Or maybe just a bypass pipe to the original ehaust.

There must be better ways to gain HP. And there are good reasons to not bypass the cat. For one, the car will smell like crap without a cat and you'll probably be the only one with a $30K+ car without one.

Will be getting 40 hp from an exhaust system plugged up with a couple bananas

BTW, I believe it is supposed to go behind the cat, in front of the the mufflers.

Guys... I don't see what all the harsh criticism is about.

Its not like this guy is asking you to run a 24/7 test pipe. Its just a bypass.

Not just any bypass, one that's activated even while in motion. I'm sure you all know that the free-er flowing mufflers that you have over the CL-P or TL adds to the 35 hp gain that the Type S has. Simple enough, well the most free flowing exhaust is simply none at all. (but that's illegal) and you lose a bit of low end torque as well.

So wouldn't it be ideal to have one that is either pressure activated so that at higher rpm's it opens up a valve to a freer flowing exhaust, or one that is driver selectable so the driver himself could open it up at higher rpm?

The former is what Nissan uses in their 300ZX, Maxima (I think) and the upcoming Sentra SE-R, the latter is what this guy is offering.

Just go to the track, Launch with all your mad low end torque, and once you clear 4000 rpm, pull the bypass and you've got all the benefits of the most high flow exhaust ever, and none of the losses of low end torque.

This kind of device is very common. The real nice Stang exhaust systems (header back) usually have this built into the system infront of the cats. You see it all the time for road racing. Much much easier than removing your exhaust every time you go to the track. You'd sound like a 140 db lawnmower though, so I would exactly put it on my TL.

Having lost an entire glass pack muffler in a 8500 rpm speed demon, one would have expected tons of power.

NO, No, No -- Power went way down from 1000 rpm to 6000 rpm.

Those pulses of air can help or hinder and depends on each header and muffler design. On one car, I had tried about 15 setups to get it just right, and the open pipes would have been great with a 6 speed and power bands between 6500-8500 rpm.

That is EXACTLY why the Maxima has the exhaust flap. Those slugs of air create a vacuum at lower speeds that help scavenge air from the other cylinders and reduce back pressure.

I have my doubts about the full 40HP gain.

(maybe on a stang)

I agree it would have use on a track car that you wanted to drive on the street and run open headers at the track. But I could not see it on a CL or TL.

Do these Muffler bearings use Blinker Fluid by any chance?
