Clutch Broken.... 4th and final time!
Well... the pressure-plate busted again this weekend. I am now resolved to putting the stock flywheel/clutch disk back on. This has cost me nearly $3K and I can't afford it any more.
It is very difficult for me to believe its install-related this time - it was done the correct way... all the way! I just don't think the self-adjust on the stock pressure-plate can withstand the forces passed-on by the Comptech flywheel - I can't find any other explanation! The stock unit has a lot of dampening built in.
I feel compelled to send the unit back to Comptech with my compliments! I understand nobody else's has broken this way... yet, but having been through this (FOUR TIMES NOW) it is only bound to happen. One strong disengagement/engagement and that's all it takes.
I have already ordered a new pressure-plate and CPS and will contact the dealer for the install (which I will have to pay entirely) - if they will even do it!

I have been talking with Shad about this since the first time it popped. Each time there was a slight concern about install (never 100% confident). This time that is not the situation... it was installed correctly. I will send it back to them... not going to comment too much at all - just that I can't use this product any longer! I won't ask nor will expect any refund or anything like that.

Damn, Ram. That's unreal. While I appluad you for just sucking it up and not going after a refund of your money, I really think you owe it to yourself to at least ask. Or some percentage of a refund... 4 times and with a 100% correct install the final time. Sounds like you're entitled to something???

Wow that really sucks I was for sure going to get the comptech clutch kit, as a replacement (Remember I am the one with the stock clutch going out at 22K) but now after all your problems i might just go with a stock replacement
Has anyone else with the comptech kit had any problems????????/
Is this just an isolated issue?????????????

As I mentioned in the other post, this pretty much put a big, fat, red X on my plans for the CT clutch/flywheel. I'm in the same boat as SLY1TYPES right now. I'd like to have the combo, but don't know if it's worth the risk...........might just put the money towards the blower instead.
Sorry you had to put up with the troubles.

Where is my super sauce?
Sorry to hear that.
I hope Comptech reps read these forums. I'd have been interested in this clutch over time, but with all the problems that you've had, I'm now pretty weary.
How many other folks have installed the Comptech flywheel/clutch? I'm guessing, but I think maybe only 4 have posted that they've installed this. Even if the other folks have no problem, your problems still represent a 20% (1 in 5 ) product failure rate - too high for this expensive product.
It'd be nice if the Comptech folks could comment here on their opinion about this situation -- their forums have been down for some time now.

Sorry to hear about this Allmotor. I think this mod is officially off of my wish list until they come up with another pressure plate. Since Comptech is making a flywheel I wouldn't think it would take much to adapt a pressure plate from another application to the flywheel since they could custom drill it. If the Accord is the same unit perhaps they will do some more development. Hope you can get something for your troubles.

Allmotor,
Not trying to question your knowledge of cars, but it seems that you drove the car pretty damn hard right after the install?
When I had the Toda Flywheel and Spec PP installed, the mechanic told me to take it easy for the first 500 miles to break it in.

Damn Ramanan, I'm sorry to hear about this. Definitely suggest a possible return to Comptech and see what they come back with.

Ahhhh what a bummer man Well I would ask CT what they can do for you at leat...see what they say...at worst they say nothing. I would also try to get them to fix this because there are a few of us now that my second guess this upgrade because of this.

I scheduled the install to be this Saturday... for the stock unit, that is - parts should be in by Thursday I believe. I will be chatting with Shad @ Comptech today about this today as well.
