I'm familiar with UR press material/statement and the theories, but nothing beats hard data.
There is a guy on one of the Accord forums that installed the UR pulley 3 years ago and he reguarly sends his oil to Blackstone. He changes his oil regularly with Mobil 1 and buys good filters and his report shows no signs of abnormal readings of wear metals/elements. I can try and get his reports if you want. He has a F23 also (Accord 98-02 and Acura CL 2.3 97-99)

I ordered my Blackstone kit, when I get results back (sounds like several weeks from ordering kit to getting oil results) I'll post them.

I dont see this question being asked previously or i'm blind...

JTso, how much hp or whp did this mod help you gain on the dyno? I'd like to see how many hp per dollar on this. Because I'm more inclined to do DC header upgrade on top of the already-installed CAI before these UR pulleys. If I understand correctly, it's always better to get the air flowing more smoothly from front to end first before stepping up another level. Correct me if I'm wrong.

The dyno is on post #43. Keep in mind that each setup may respond differently to the same mod depends on the current state of tune.

do you happen to know the whp numbers before the UR pulleys?

The before and after numbers are in the dyno chart - 192 before, 197 after.

So you aren't over 200whp yet either. Dang... I thought for sure you were.

I did, without SAE correction. Which means, that's the power to the ground on that particular day. It's slightly lower with SAE correction. That's why it's good to have the actual dyno files for analysis.

This is the most recent dyno with the test pipe. It's probably the closest to 200 whp with SAE correction.

I think Zasker, who was the first one on this board with the pulleys, did a dyno and he made 11 whp and 11 ft lbs of torque.

So like Jtso said, the results vary.

I dropped my car off at a shop today to have these pulleys installed. They quoted me OVER $450 to do the job, w/ 4-6 hours shop time @ $110 / hour. I told them exactly where they could shove it.

I went ahead and orderd the crank pulley tool (since I have an AT). Man is that thing expensive for 1 wrench ($90 shipped). Anywho, this will definitly be the hardest DIY I will have ever attempted, so please look for my requests for help this weekend JTso

With this in mind, is there any particularly tricky piece of this install? Other than the fact that it looks time consuming, it does seem doable with the right tools (and you of course provided a great list up front). The hardest part to me actually looks like removing the alternator. Any tips or thoughts on that part now that its 3 months stale in your mind?

Thanks as usual. -Reach

If anyone wants to come watch (you DC guys) and feel my pain you are more than welcome.

Wow $450!!! I got it done for $150 CDN and I thought that was a bit on high side as its about 1 1/2 to 2 hour job.

Should check around other shops....

Where can you get the belt K070683? I live in Australia so things are not readily available. And apart from jackstands and a jack + a buddy, I have a complete set of socket tools (braker bar, ratchet, 6 point sockets, + a breaker bar extension). Do you think I am adequately equipped for the combat? Can I just tighten the bolts without using a torque wrench and just use the 90 degree reference that JTso pointed?

You also need an impact gun, even an electric one to remove and tighten the alternator and PS pulleys. Don't bother using an impact gun to remove the crank pulley as it's super tight. I wouldn't try to tighten the crank bolt all the way to 90 degrees as it's almost impossible to do. I would only use it as reference so you know how far you are from it. You should check your local auto part stores for the belt as it's a common part.

SiR Jtso: But is the Gates brand available worldwide? K070683 (69.09" or 1755MM), is the length standardized? Is tightening and removing the bolts can be done using ratchet and a breaker bar?

?

Is there some specific reason this can't be done with hand tools only? I was planning on tackling this job this weekend, but I only have hand tools.

-Reach, who now has a crank pulley tool.

I don't know if the part distributes worldwide but it would easy to find out by calling the local parts store or contact Gates. You can remove and tighten with a breaker bar and an extension. If you have an AT, you will need a crank pulley tool and someone to help hold it.

The pulley turns freely when you put a wrench on the nut. However, if you can hold the pulley in place without damaging it and still provide enough leverage to remove the nuts, then hand tools will work.

So forgive my ignorance, but how does having an impact gun fix that? I can't visualize it.

Now I feel destined for failure.

The impact gun alone won't. That's why you will need a strap wrench or use the old belt to hold the pulley in place. The power of the impact gun will loosen/tighten the nut before the pulley has a chance to turn.

Just did an install for drunkenbuda yesterday and decided to crank up the air compressor to 120psi to give the impact gun another try. The crank bolt came off as easy as a lug nut on a wheel! I love my impact gun again.

Gentlemen, if you're considering doing this mod, I beseech you to buy this impact gun immediately, if not sooner. You don't want to know how tight that bolt is, you don't want to know about the five-foot extension I had to use to get my bolt off and my brother's off his '99 Accord (put pulleys on that, too). They did NOT come off like lug nuts.

Well, I did have problems with the same impact gun on my 6MT, but the air pressure wasn't as high. drunkenbuda has a 5AT, not sure if that makes any difference. Maybe I got lucky this time.

The car drives great! No other changes other than the ETD setup.

Actually, I will be installing an intake manifold heatshield gasket soon (between intake manifold and injector base). This is in addition to the Hondata gasket.
