I'm looking to buy a used TSX at a Ford. It's an early model and I'm going to look at it tomorrow. I called a couple of Acura dealers in the area to check the service record and they said they can only tell if the car's been serviced at thier shop. Is this true? If Jiffy Lube can do it, why can't Acura?
The VIN is JH4CL96934C001614.
any help or advice would greatly be appreciated!

if this is one of your concern, do not buy used... i do my own services for all my cars. i dont keep receipts.. so it is tuff for others to belive what i did and how i took care of the car unless buyers know me and know i well i took care of my cars. now stop and think y he or she trade in that car that fast? is it a trade in or dealer buy from auction lot? had the car been hit b4? sometimes if fender bender or whatever, both parties paid cash for repairs.. and no report to dmv.. how do u know?
i always buy new because i start from day one, i dont know how the previous owner abuse the car, was it a loaner from the dealer? and they sold to other dealers? loaners are no way.. 100x dfiferent drivers abuse them. i m one of them .. "not mine, i will drive hard on it" who cares.. just like u go rent a car from rental car company or rent a house or apartment..same thing

if i buy used? b4 i will even start think about it, it must be 12k or less if one year old car.
for 2004 model must be less than 15k and price must be 5-6000 less than the new one's purchase price. i paid 26642.70 plus tax and lic for a 2004 acura tsx navi in august 2003 as a 04 model.
model CL 969

Since Acura doesn't include free maintenance with the car, it is quite likely that any non-warranty stuff (like oil changes) wasn't even done by an Acura dealer. Especially in LA where there is an independent Honda/Acura guy on practically every street corner, and many of them are more competent than the dealers are...

Many of them are more competent than the dealers. But if the car was brought to Jiffy Lube, you have some 16 year old high school kid changing the oil. Thats not saying that all high school kids dont know anything about cars.
My friend in high school once brought her car to Jiffy Lube and they didnt plug back in the hoses correctly. The car overheated and ruined the cooling system. She filed a suit against them and won.

But given that I have two GOOD Honda/Acura guys (with references) within 5 minutes of the office, and no dealer that's particularly convenient during the work week, I will certainly be doing at least basic maintenance at the independents.
Around here, you work for a dealer for a few years to learn the ropes, then if you're any good you go indie.

Of course, if I end up working closer to a dealer, that would change things.
