Thoughts on X5 M?

What are your opinions on this car? A close relative of mine is thinking about purchasing one. (Well leasing one for a 36 months at $1200~1400 a mo/)

Do you think it's worth the $90K price tag?

555HP 500TQ Twin Turbo V-8

Cool as far as SUV's go, but if you don't need to have a SUV I think you can get a much better performing car for similar money. If I had to have a SUV and was in this price range I would also be looking closely at a comparably priced Cayenne.

If you've got to have that combination of speed, handling, utility, a bling marque and have the financial resources (along with the ability to justify the cost) then the X5 M is the way to go.

Honestly, I'd get a lightly used ML63 AMG (not as fast but pretty damn fast nonetheless) if I needed an SUV in this segment and call it a day.

It over course depends on if they're planning on utilizing all the space the X5 provides, but if they weren't I would much rather have the X6 M. I know I'm in the minority with that one, but I'm one of the few who actually really like the X6.

They must be putting a LOT of money down to expect a 1200-1400 lease payment..

This. I guess it can be done though. My buddy leases a new 750 for 1200 mo. with almost nothing down. I sat in one of these at the dealer and I just didn't "get" it. Not aggressive enough looking for me. Needs drilled rotors. Wheels don't look as bad as the pics but still meh. Cheesy looking tires. I may consider one after someone takes the $25k first year depreciation.

Weither the X5/X6Ms are worth the 90k asking price tag is worth it is a matter of opinion...I think they look pretty damn gorgeous both but at that price point, I would go with a Cayenne Turbo. Like it was also mentionned the ML63 AMG with the updated facelift in 09 look pretty cool.

+1 achenator, I've seen and sat in the new 7 series myself and buying one over an S550/LS460/A8 makes no sense to me.

oof. 1400 a mo. to borrow an SUV. thats hard to justify regardless of how much $$ you have.

He currently drives and A8 and MDX so he was contemplating trading both in for the X5 M, consolidating both car payments into one car that was top of the line.

The A8 is nearing the end of the road 135K miles or so. It is in need of repairs so. Also factor insurance on one X5 M should be cheaper than the MDX and A8 combined. Currently they cost to insure both is 4200 a yr. Also the monthly payments total $1300. So he figured he might end up saving a few bucks as well.

I think we might convince him to just downgrade and get the X5 4.8i.

The ML doesn't appeal to him and is a bit smaller.

Yeah, they're huge I wouldn't ever want to be driving something that large. The car is nearly $100K, I'd prefer the A8 over the 7 series.

How much would you figure the car would cost monthly? $1600 with $5K down?

No, i was speaking about the x5m. Just doesn't do it for me. If I was shopping for a land yacht, I would want the most reliable yacht. LS460

I used to pay $1500 a month for this:

2006 X5 4.8is

I wasn't leasing it though. After 6 months....It finally hit me and although I absolutely loved it....it had to go

I don't really like the X5M as much to be honest, I looks like the older X3 with the M sport package IMO.

Would I drive one? Of course!

my thoughts:
1. there's already a thread for this car in auto news.
2. it's a hot looking car. if i was ever in the market for an expensive SUV, i'd definitely look at it.
3. but i prefer the looks of the X6 M.

X6M looks like a turd, this thing rocks...hard. The front bumper is a little much, but its still a better looking SUV than the Cayenne.

In my opinion the X6 look fugly. I like the X5M a lot more. But if I had that kind of cash and wanted a car in that class I would go for the Cayenne Turbo.

^^word or possibly a range rover.

not to mention, it's not the best feeling when 90% of the ppl on the road are mistaking your 90k car for one that is half that price.

considering the actual exclusivity of the car, dealing with ppl thinking its a grocery getter on a daily basis would drive me absolutely nuts.

I go through that enough with my m3 sedan. We had a track day a while back and one of my business partners with a 911 asks "does your wife know you have her car out here" My reply "fvck you, get in" LOL

In terms of land yacht it's hard to fault the LS460, not a drivers car, but none of those behemoths are.

Weird how peoples thoughts differ on this.

I think the X6 is much more aggressive looking and looks really mean. I love it.

I like how the E90 M3 doesnt draw much attention.

Same reason why i would love to own an X5M as well. If i ever need the space yet still want to have fun.. its the perfect daily.

yeah but too bad RR's are turds themselves when it comes to maintenance...my gf's sister has a Sport, so I know from their experience, let alone 90% of all the other RR owners out there. But damn is it
