yes, as already discussed in this thread. Any amount over causes the file to have to be compressed before being inserted back into the bin. the delay you are seeing is due to the time it takes to decompress the image before display. The primary two ways to reduce the size of your bmp are to either use fewer colors in the 256-color palette or to chop off some rows or columns of the image. Personally, I find it better to remove 2 pixels off both the right and the left so you can preseve all 256 colors. So shrink your image to 476x234 and your delay should go away.

Nav Hack

I have an idea on to add a little fun to the navi. I want to get everyone's thoughts first. Has anyone tried to hook up a PCMCIA DVD player to the pc port of the DVD drive? I’m wondering if this will allow a movie to play straight through?

If that doesn’t work, I'm wondering if someone has a wiring diagram to for the wiring harness to the DVD player in the trunk. If we could find what wire relay the video and audio signals we could tap into that for an easy install of a DVD player. Then we would not need to purchase any additional spoofing hardware.

The best solution would be to get a PCMCIA HDD and load windows CE on it. Then our options are endless, playing movies could be done right from the existing DVD Drive amoung other things.

I would love to hear your thoughts.

Thanks,

That does sound like a good idea. I was thinking, it would be easier to interface cat5 to the NAVI that way we expand our options. Mobile access point anyone .

With cat5 and a power connection I could then put my mythTV box in the trunk, it does double duty right now for both recipes and movies.

Thanks

Jebus! Baby steps folks, baby steps....

Maybe we can start by getting rid of the nag screen before we start building webservers in our trunks.

I don't think it's reasonable to expect the navigation system to do everything you guys are requesting. There are systems already on the market that will let you override the signal going to the screen so you can use DVD players, CarPC's, or game consoles.

Man, then we could run a distributed.net client too. Is there any way to keep the navi cpu on when the engine is off to harness its cpu power 24/7? I bet the battery could run it for a couple days, so as long as you drive your car once a day you should be fine. Imagine if half the navi tsx/tl's out there were running distributed.net.... we'd crack rc5-72 in no time! we should create an acurazine dnet team!

I know this is Acura and TSX stuff, but it looked like I could do this for my Honda Acccord 2003. Which I gave it a shot to change the boot screen and it worked fine. My bin file names were differnt but I found the one my car loads used the gui version and changed the screen. Good stuff byson! Any word on the no nag?

I have read many post regarding these devices. Basically I want DVD video on my navi, what do i need to do these as clean as possible. Most post I have looked at, it is a sloppy install, with crap all mounted in the trunk and bolted to that back of the seat.

There has to be a better way to do this.

I'm trying to find a .bin conversion program. If I can decompile the code, i'm sure the nag screen can be removed. If any one has a decompiler let me know.

Well, what I'm trying to do for the moment is enable the AirCon.exe (Air coditioner proram) and Tripcomputer.exe (Trip computer program) as additional items on the Info menu in our 3G TLs.

Before people get fancy with stuff like playing videos through the PCMCIA, webservers and stuff like that, try to stick to realistic stuff.

Sounds:

I have sucessfully changed the beeping sounds on mine. A lot of hard work because "File sizes have to be identical". Argh!

The .PCM files are simply 8-bit 8000hz, PCM mono raw files. So I put in a sound that's slightly shorter than our "beep" sound (vice control in TL) and added some silence after it to complete the 1KB. Then I just clipped the extra bytes so I could get identical file sizes. It does work!

Anyway, back to the real work: getting the trip-computer screen as an option on the info screen on 3G TL navis.

it'd be awesome if someone wrote an ipod interface program that could interface with an ipod through a usb/firewire pcmcia card

pull the audio through digitally ... have track names display .. control the tracks ... a guy can dream cant he?

the bimmer ipod hookup is CRAP. if you want to use playlists you need to name them "BMW1" ... "BMW 6" ... you can use steering wheel controls, whoopie, but track names don't show up. Instead all it says is Track 01, Track 02, etc. all the way up to Track 99, how informative.

All the while, the iPod must stay in the glovebox so you can't even manually control it either.

Isn't BIN files are normal binary files? What is that to decompiled? I think you need to know the location of each start files in order to determine which byte range to extract to get the file located in that location. Probably these locations are stored in the first xxx header bytes of the BIN file....don't know... All along i thought BIN files are binary files.

Speculation #1: bysin heard from Honda and was told to quit this project or be sued under the DMCA. Why else did he stop development mid stream?

I think if that were the case, his website would be down and/or the files would be removed. I've seem DMCA cases before, and in every case, the offending files that violated the dmca were removed.

Look in my thread https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...3&page=8&pp=25

You are too optimistic.

1. Processor is SH-4. Do you know it? Operating system is Windows CE.
2. Navi.exe is written on C++ and as result its investigation is not easy, at least more difficult than C code.
3. The size of Navi.exe itself is almost 5M. It also uses a bunch of dlls. For example, the code that initializing message table(among with nag screen messages) is outside of Navi.exe.
4. You can't just remove nag screen because the program is initializing in bacground and you have to wait when it finishes. The best that can be done is remove pressing of Ok button.

I don't say that it can't be done. But it is not an ordinal hack.

Seriously, we should get a poll going of who donated. I wonder how much it came out too.

Well, considering that amost 80,000 ppl have viewed this thread (dunno if that counts repeaters like me), even if a small percentage donated a dollar, it would be a nice amount. Personally, I donated 10.

But I really dont have a problem with that since we now have a way to a least change the background. That right there was worth the 10 spot to me.

So at this point, all I want is to know if he's working on it or not anymore. If yes, great. If no, great. At least we would be able to stop the speculation...

We've had that, and we had it for free from AK217.

Looks like he had a hack but didnt release it:

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...3&page=7&pp=25

So, I wouldnt say we already had the background changel ability.

He was working on it and wanted to work out all the bugs before throwing to everyone. I was an alpha tester for it, but by the time we worked some things out the thread had died and AK's motivation was gone. I'm still giving him credit for the hack since I've been driving around with a hacked navi for many months.

Unlikely. He lurked around here for days after he quit posting. Now I see he hasn't loged in for over a week. Bet he created a new account to save face.
